GM Credit Card
Thinking about getting a GM credit card for the cash discount on new car purchase. Does anyone know what the limit is on what GM will allow use on new car purchase?

Burning Brakes
Unlimited on a new GM vehicle, $1,000 per year on certified pre-owned from GM dealer.
Without stoking what could quickly make religious and political battles look calm, I will simply suggest you compare the GM card to American Express Membership Rewards, Citi Thank You, and Chase Ultimate Rewards. Consider earning opportunities, redemption values, and redemption options.
Make the informed choice that's best for you!

I have a GM car with no limit on the number of points you can earn and no limit on the amount you can apply to a purchase. Not all of their cards are the same so you have to be aware of which card you apply for. Also, when you apply your points it is listed on your sales contract as an incentive and deducted before taxes are calculated. If you were to use points to receive cash from a different card company to apply to the sales price, that would be taxable from your state. Just another thing to think about.

Considering getting the GM CC also. Do you have to use the card on a new C8 purchase to get the points or does GM give you new car purchase points whether it used or not? Where else do you use the card to earn points? Thanks.

Considering gm’s privacy policy is something close to “we will sell your private information to anyone at anytime for any reason to make a buck…” I can’t see giving gm the ability to track my purchase history in addition to tracking my location… and how fast I drove there… and how hard I applied the brakes… and how quickly the car accelerated… and what radio station was playing….. and the drivers window was half way lowered… and much more unfortunately…

I guess it makes sense if you only buy gm vehicles, which I could never do. Love the C8 but gm…. As a company… I’m trying to get gm out of my life (Onstar).

The best thing about the GM card is the occasional bonus credit they offer. We recently took advantage of a $1,200 offer to be used by 2/29/24. We had $800 in regular "points" at that time, so we got a $2,000 discount from the card on a Cadillac XT5. We've probably used over $10k in bonus offers over the years.

I signed up for the Chevrolet CC when I bought my previous C7 Z06. It's turned out to be a good deal over the past 5-6 years with the various bonus points promo's, fuel purchase bonuses, etc.
Not sure what's going on with Goldman Sachs, but I hope they continue with it into the future.
