Windshield Tint Percentage

Windshield Tint Percentage
Hi all:
My 2024 Rapid Blue 3LT Z51 Stingray was delivered last Wednesday. Drove it straigtht from the dealership to get PPF'd and Ceramic Coated. When that's done , am then getting the windows tinted. The business suggested 50% for the windshield.
1. What % is your windshield and why? How is it? At night? In a downpour?
2. 50% too light? Too dark?
Thanks.

50% is perfect and you won't have any issues. Anything darker will cause problems at night.
Just be ready for all the forum attorneys who will state tinting your windshield is illegal and you could be subject years and years of imprisonment for this heinous act! Just know I'll share a cell with you too!

Anyone here know what the actual VLT of the C8 windshield actually is?

The windshield is already tinted. The government tells automobile manufacturers that the windshield must transmit at least 70% of the light. I don't know what GMs actual choice was for the C8 windshield. But, if we assume it's already at 70% visible light transmission (VLT) and you want 50% VLT, you need to go with a 70% VLT film.

It goes up to 70%. Sorry about that mistake.

Actually, a 70% VLT windshield with 70% film would be progressively darker than 70%. FMVSS state no glazer may supply for use in the US, front or side glass with lower VLT than 70%. Some states allow for the sides to then go a little darker. And the top band above the AS1 line can be darker, but not below.

VLT is Visible light Transmitted. Or the amount of light which passes through.

The windshield on my car is tinted whatever the factory put on it.

I had 50% windshield in my C7 and I liked it the most. I have windshield 70% on my C8. Both are 15% sides and 15% back window.
I liked 50 anytime it wasn’t raining at night. It was just too dark. Mine was my daily so I didn’t have a choice.
70% isn’t dark enough in the day in my opinion. Either way you’ll like it. Make sure it’s ceramic

My question is always… WHY?
Looks so “Used Kia/Hyundai financed”, there is no need in a car with ac, visibility is inarguably decreased, and why volunteer probable cause for a stop nearly everywhere in the US?

Stayed with the 70% default on the windshield, but went down to the state minimum of 35% for the windows. I thought it would be too dark, but after a month of driving during both day and night, I think it's actually perfect... not nearly as dark as I thought it would be.

Llumar AIR80 clear ceramic film designed to block solar energy (heat), IR, & UV while being nearly optically clear. I use the same film on factory tinted rear SUV glass, and sunroofs, as well. Makes a huge difference under the Texas summer sun!

As stated, just go with 70%+ VLT tint. Do not go darker. The tinted glass will make it unbearable otherwise. You really need heat and UV rejection, not light rejection.

You can get heat and UV rejection with the films that are nearly clear. I have that film on my windshield legally through a medical waiver.
But that’s not why most want tint on the windshield, so probably wasting my clicks.

Thanks very much. This will be my daily. The guy did say anything darker than 50% here in Florida would be very hard to see in one of our tropical downpours. He said he himself uses 50%, but I wanted the opinion of people like you who own the car. He also recommended 20 for my sides. I chose Nano Ceramic IR Plus

(0.5 × 0.7) x 100 = 35%

Thanks. The package I'm getting is Nano Ceramic IR Plus. 2 Ply Film. According to the specs, it's 5% visible light reflection, 99% UV Ray Rejection, 95% Glare rejection , 70% TSER Solar Heat Rejection, and 95% IR Infrared Energy Rejection. Yeah, heat and UV rejection are extremely important to me. Appreciate the advice.
