Onstar plan for 2024 C8 Navigation
https://support.google.com/googleapp...%2Cgoogle-maps
While playing around I found a screen in Google that says I have service until March 2025 which is a strange date that doesn't correspond with anything to do with my car or purchase of it. I paid for this car in Sept.
Again, it shouldn't be working but it is.
The steps once again:
1. Have Android Auto (or Car Play) running on your phone.
2. Make sure you have Bluetooth paired to your car.
3. Make sure you are far enough away from your home Wi-Fi that it is not connected to your car.
4. Launch the app you want. I did have Google tell me a few times I needed a data plan so I dismissed the screen and it works anyway.
I'd appreciate knowing someone else was experiencing this so I know I haven't lost my mind (anymore than I already have).
It includes In-Vehicle Apps and mentions "Spotify, Pandora, real time traffic updates and more. " I realize those require and internet connection and data, but why not also mention the big kahuna, Google Maps or "the navigation systemsoftware"?
It includes Map+ . This offers personalized navigation, road closures, traffic updates, weather conditions. Again it does not mention the actual Google Maps or its functions with include map display, destination search, and direction.
Finally it provdes Alexa Built-In. Which is a voice assistant.
It never actually mentions a data plan either.
Can I conclude that it will not support the Google Maps navigation function? No, I can't. And, maybe it does. But if it does, it would sure be more clear if that was specifically stated. By the way, I don't think "Connected Navigation" is the same either. That again is a feature that provide real time data about roads, traffic, etc. Its not the basic map, destination, and direction service.
Edit: after searching a little more, I have found that Maps+ is described as an App that does display maps and provide a navigation function. I find no reference to that in the Owners Manual - rather it says Google Maps. Is that the same as Maps+. ? Anyway, AppAccess does provide Maps+.
Edit2: I'm going to suggest a possible reason its not indicating that App Access does not show support for Google Maps Navigation. It may be because my 2021 Corvette does not have the Google Built In and does not require a plan to support my built in Nav. I'm getting the info from withing my Chevy Account - so I may be getting shown plan info that is specific to my vehicle. I can't find any generic info about App Access that says it provides the data needed to support that in a 2024, but absence evidence is not evidence of absence, so thats inconclusive.

If you select the Remote Access plan, it is not checked for Google Built-in.

It's been 100% consistent for me, AppAccess always shows a check for Google Built-In, and Remote Access never does.

I believe there was a class action lawsuit that stopped GM from forcing a separate purchase of OnStar.
Bought a new iPhone 15 Pro yesterday as my old 8 was not able to take the latest updates! Put it in the charge slot this morning and although I don't use my Cell phone it the Vette, checked and made a hands free call. It is connected via CarPlay! Don't know how it just happened. Press maps and get a map and looks like I can use NAV. So far not sure I paid anybody anything!
The songs on my flash drive are playing via CarPlay, at least that is what displays. BUT they were not in shuffle mode. Took the phone out of the charge/use slot and went to my Flash drive and songs playing before I installed the phone. Had that set in shuffle mode. That is what played, no phone interference!
All confusing! May have to wait till my "Trail OnStar" is no longer active apparently still active until March 27 to finally see IF I can use Apple CarPaly when I need NAV. As today it displayed on the center screen as it did when I used in in my 2LT Grand Sport without NAV! Don't use often but when I do, all within 100 miles radius. Thought I read I get that Google Map free for my Local area!
Heck I bought the E-Ray for 0 to 60 (not with the added Boost Shift un till >1500) and when I get 500 miles will do! But this whole issue with NAV is total BS!

- With my new iPhone 15Pro in my pocket (not in the charge slot) a message popped on the center screen stating Want to Navigate?
- So pressed the talk ICON and Said yes!
- Young lady said Navigate too Where?
- I picked a name and she said There are 7, which one? (All 7 on a map.)
- Picked one and the route was on a Map on the center screen.
- Then I asked her to Cancel Navigation, which I think she did.
- BUT I still had directions displayed. I said again Cancel Navigation. She said You have no Apple Navigations selected.
- Then under an arrow telling me to turn left was a message, EXIT Navigation? Pressed and directions and route were gone.
- So I think that last Nav may have been from OnStar? I'm in no rush so will wait until March 27, which OnStar Rep said although I canceled it's still active until them.
- I was driving in My Mode as I have been and for the whole trip had speed limit displaying on the dash. Was that from Apple CarPlay or OnStar?
- Will see after March 27!

Some are so sneaky about charging with a simple click you can miss!
Jerry, where are you seeing that fee related to Apple CarPlay?
Also (things change so quickly) I'm confused about what you mean by "loading" CarPlay on your phone. On my iPhone, Apple CarPlay is not an "App" that is loaded - its just a built in feature that is enabled from the menu. The equivalent Android function might be an App, I don't know, but I was thinking Apple since you mentioned that.
My phone in Apple Car Play App.
I see pic of E-Ray:
Says Activate All Features
Two Options $0.94/week or $14.99/mo
States Activate Navigation, Music, Calls Control
Smart car conductivity add multiple cars in your garage
Sounds like OnStar! Don't think I have "activated!"
