Default C8 Rear Spoiler Install Question

Does anyone think that double face tape(only) would hold a Z51 spoiler? Hate to drill holes in case I change my mind a couple months down the road.
Thanks

The blade spoiler I now have on my C8 was designed to be installed with double-sided tape only. But I asked for the Bolt kit just for some extra piece of mind..I did have a high-wing spoiler which definitely needed to be bolted to the car.

I wouldn't feel too good about just having the tape hold a Z51 spoiler. I would worry that it would pull off, but the 3M tape is pretty strong. What is it that you are on the fence about when it comes to the Z51 spoiler? The 51 is a good "middle of the road" choice over the low and the high wing. I don't care for the high wing, as it looks as if it is a bit "ricey" IMO. So, I am going to receive my wickers today and place them to see if I want to keep them or send them back. Free returns on Amazon, makes decisions much easier. You might want to sure up your decision and use the hardware.

I have a Z51 spoiler I bought. I'm just in between that and the high wing spoiler.
Nice Stingray. I used to live right down the road from Muscle Car City.
Thank you for your help.

done correctly, absolutely two-sided tape around the whole underside exterior edge will hold down that spoiler. It’s a small spoiler. It doesn’t weigh much and the proper application and amount of double sided 3M exterior tape will make it virtually impossible to take off without a lot of effort. Clean both surfaces with alcohol liberally, lay down some 3m 94 primer adhesion promoter on both surfaces and stick it down, it’ll never move again as long as you own the car unless you want it to come off , and then it gonna take a lot of effort.. Wings are different story, this is a low spoiler and not under a lot of stress.

I have the same Z 51 spoiler on my car,

The Museum closed. But they still have Cars-n-coffee once a month.

Interesting spoiler. Where did you source it?

I have a low profile Z06 style spoiler, it is attached with tape only. I also test fit some of the replica "Z51 low profile" style spoilers, also designed to be used with just tape, or bolts. I think all of those designs are well suited to tape only because the mounting surface is the entire length of the spoiler. the standard Z51 spoiler has a lot less surface contact to rely on. So I would be hesitant to only trust the tape. Its VERY strong tape, but there is a limit to the sheer strength.

Did you consider the low profile options? They are more unique for sure, and the bonus of not having to drill holes or remove the bumper cover is nice too.

The low spoiler two sided tape versions also include or recommend the use of silicon between the 2 strips of tape. Applying the spoiler correctly will give you piece of mind and won't come off... Forget the fear factor!

Using a good double sided tape like 3M brand and the spoiler will be solidly mounted on the car.

this stuff takes double sided tape to a whole 'nother level of adhesion when used for tape. Paint both surfaces with this before you peel and stick the tape, wait 60 secs and it will make it almost virtually impossible that the tape will come loose. it’s also used by wrap technicians to keep a corner down when it keeps coming loose.

I used 3M adhesion promoter wipes when I installed my spoiler. Worked very well. Easy to apply. But it’s not really necessary and could make it harder to remove later. Use with caution.
