License Plates….I just have to know!
Ever since joining the forum back in 2015 most members when posting a picture of their C8 that shows their license plate they blur it out. Why do they/you do that?
I am clueless as to why anyone would do that. Do they/you cover your license plate when driving it on public roads?
I just have to know why.

Same reason I do not use my real name, show pics of any family, my home address, who I work for, what I do for work, show my VIN, my tags, etc... PerSec
Most people share WAY TOO much data about themselves and make it WAY TOO easy for the "bad guys"

Due to a lot of oddballs that want to try and get personal info about others. I don't worry much about it here, but watch it on Facebook or the like.

To be logically consistent, they probably do not drive their vehicle in public.
Any other conclusion is embarrassingly hypocritical.

Who D'at?
We drove to Phoenix and back for Mother's Day, Interstate most of the way. My guess, we were surveilled by a dozen+ cameras along the way. Countless dash cams. Adding the Pilot Truck Stop as well. In Phoenix, another dozen easy. Our daughter in law showed us on their Ring neighborhood ring of honor. So of course, did her neighbors.. I wouldn't add something to Facebook or X i.e., but you'd need to live off the grid in a cave to protect your license plate. Then you wouldn't need one eh?

I don't hide my license plate, so I'm not super worried about it, but posting on the internet and driving in public are not the same things.
Driving around in public a scammer/thief/whatever would need to be in the same physical location as you at the same exact time and be prepared to write down or photo your license plate. The odds of that are small.
On the internet, people (Scammers, etc) have all the time in the world to scour the internet for anything they are interested in from anywhere in the world. A scammer in southern Asia isn't going to see your license plate driving around Nebraska. But they'll find it on the internet if they want to, and from there they have your vehicle, vehicle history, lien holder, name, address, etc. I'm sure they have other ways to get the same information, but I understand people who don't want to make it easy for them.

I must be among the luckiest Vette drivers in the world... As I approach a million (yes, million) miles in Corvettes over the last 34 years I have never worried about someone seeing my license plates. The same goes for the P-cars, the Ferrari, and other assorted "better than just nice" cars I've owned.

So asking a question or simply curious is complaining? Sounds like you are spending your time complaining about what others post. Hypocrite.

I agree Maxie, I've never understood blurring out the license plate either. Good question.

Had a guy come into my neighborhood yesterday, parked in front of my neighbor's house. Minivan with a temp tag. Got out and put a cloth cover (looked like it was made for it) over the plate and proceeded to do a photo shoot of the exterior and interior. Took easily 20 shots. Then took off his cover and left the 'hood. I thought it was interesting.

Its an effed up world when people are calling for you to be “investigated” because they don’t like what you say…

You never know when a spur of the moment bank robbery could be foiled by a Facebook post from 2 years ago.

I don’t show my plate because it’s my understanding that anyone can contact my state RMV and get my name and address from my plate. Now 99.9% of the time “so what”…. Then the other day I was participating in a discussion about the new safety “features” added to 24 and later cars and how I have them all turned off for my own reasons… apparently another forum participant didn’t like my comments and encouraged other posters to “investigate” my comments… now they just said investigate my forum comments but who knows how far they, or someone else would take that….
