I had a cable break for the HTC a couple weeks ago. Took it to the dealer and the total bill was over $980. The cable itself was $727.87. Does this sound correct? Has anyone else had to have a cable replaced? Is this an accurate cost?
The cable/bracket assembly can be purchased online for a couple of hundred dollars but the cable can't be purchased separately. I've seen posts of the part numbers but don't know what they are. I've seen posts where people just removed the cable from the bracket so they didn't have to replace the bracket. One side is more expensive than the other but you can just buy the cheapest side and use the cable. I don't know why the cable assembly the dealer used is so expensive. Do a search for the part number on the invoice and see what the online cost is.
I purchased the extended warranty but it must not have been the Paltinum version. The dealer told me that the extended warranty did not cover the cable.

That is good to know if I ever have a cable break again.
Just make the cable yourself or have a company make one at the correct length and end fittings. $700 is an INSULT/SLAP in the face to customers by GM for a simple cheap to produce cable.

You can take the cable housing to a place that fabricates bicycle or vintage motorcycle cables and they could probably fabricate a new inner cable.
