Default XPEL Tracwrap substitute

Hello all, need some help…..

Planning to drive a new ZR-1 home after delivery. My wife and I love road trips and have several visits planned …. So we do want to drive.

Problem is for our Z06 delivery we used XPEL Tracwrap for temporary protection during the long drive, and I just found out it’s not made anymore (or as far as I can tell it’s unavailable).

Does anyone know of a quality substitute? Amazon has some products (track tape & track armor) but the reviews I have seen are not making me excited about them.

Is there something else? Or are the reviews wrong (I have found their reviews to he hit & miss).

Thanks!

That's not exactly what you want. That is only 6" by 7 feet. It used to come in 100 or greater foot rolls.

OP, I see 3M PPF available in 6" by 100 foot rolls on Amazon. That should be a good substitute. 8 mil thick.

Others have used blue painters tape.

yes you are correct. That would do it but for the life of me, I cannot find anything bigger than 120 inches of the 3M that you are talking about. Is it possible for you to attach a link?

have you checked with a local Xpel dealer/installer and see if they have something they are willing to sell you.

I have used Track Armor a few times. Once on my first 2020 Stingray at VIR before I spent money on PPF and another time to prep my '23 Z06 for the drive home from the NCM. The areas ahead of the rear wheels get it the worst. I used a novistretch bra for the front then had the car PPF'd when I got home.

The PPF place by the NCM is VERY expensive and if you get PPF done around the selling dealer then you have a challenge for warranty work if the film has issues.

I will say that modern paint seems to suck and be VERY prone to chips. I put 1,500 miles on my current car before getting PPF and area ahead of rear wheels has a few primer spots showing. Kind of stinks that you effectively "must" get PPF. My wife's Mercedes doesn't have a single chip after 4 years and 45K miles. They use a special clear that is harder and more resistant to chips and swirls, plus the vehicle sits higher than a sports car.

Easy to put on... I left it on for a couple weeks until my PPF appt and there was a little residue, but easily removed by the PPF people during their prep process (alcohol wipe etc.)

Not sure how much that tracwrap stuff costs... I did blue painters tape for a 1500 mile drive home in my LC. Three small (tiny) rock chips managed to get through to the paint (2 on hood, 1 on front bumper) which isnt bad for 1500 miles and I hardly notice them with the PPF on now. Pretty sure all 3 happened in the 1st hour in bumper to bumper traffic in Miami.

It only cost me $20 on Amazon for three 55 yard rolls of 3" wide tape. Took a little under an hour to do this prior to driving. Had to oull over a couple times when a piece or two began coming loose due to wind, but nothing too bad and a quick "fix" each time. 3 rolls was just about right still have a little left. You could even do it 2 layers thick if you wanted thicker protecrion if driving through high traffic areas, for total cost $40.

i'm sure the 8mil PPF would be better than the tape, but I didnt want to try and get it through airport or put it on by myself.

Here's what I used:
Amazon Amazon

Here's what folks saw passing them on I10 from Miami to TX:

Here she is post PPF, almost flawless paint despite the drive.

Good luck with whatever product you use. Congrats on the pending ZR1 delivery and post up pics when you get the car.
