There needs to be a C8 section already. Why do people keep posting this in C6?

Partly because there's no C8 section of the forum.

Partly because C6 members want to talk about it.

Same reason threads on the Super Bowl and coffee cups were allowed to stay, because C6 forum members wanted to discuss it.

I, for one, am really curious to see where they go with the C8. The C7 didn't and still doesn't do anything for me. From the moment I first saw it, I jokingly said "well, I guess I'll just wait until the C8". Even I didn't think I was serious. Now that all the leaks are coming out, I'm quite excited to see where it goes!

Looking forward to seeing it, but I would be willing to bet that a mid-engine DOHC Vette, will have a starting price in 6 figures.

I kind of hope that GM does NOT do a "co-existing" run. In other words, the base model is C7 and the top of the line becomes known as a "C8". Each generation has always had it's model variants.....the ZR, ZOs' , GS and so forth....but never two completely different cars (generations) in the lineup. It would be kind of like having brought out a C7 styled GS in, lets say, the final year of the C6 run.....very strange. Obviously going to a mid-engine will be a big step production wise.....i guess they probably would like to "test the waters" before committing to a mid-engine generation. .....just my opinion.

Default If all true....

with a mid-engine as shown, and styling close to what is shown (I like!), then how far down the road before there is a "Hybrid" variant that will compete with the new Acura NSX??!! This new platform lends itself to that approach IMHO.

This is all highly speculative, at best, and wishful thinking at worst. It's my opinion that the video maker makes a number of assertions/assumptions that are really worth challenging. The truth is, even the so called spy photos that have been released aren't of certainty of a Corvette at all. I find it very interesting that in the new season of sports car racing, most of the teams that were running Corvette engines/parts are now running Cadillac engines/parts. Even IMSA made a big deal about this and cited the Cadillac brand as separate from the Chevrolet brand in articles about the new season.

I don't have to be right about any of this, just tossing out a couple of thoughts. I think it's silly to think that GM has any sites trying to seriously compete with the other six figure sports cars. Great value to be sure, but at that point it just becomes about ego. Sure the car is capable of 180 mph - yet almost no one drives it there, most lacking the will/skill to do so and the rest of us the pavement to do so. I've been up to 125 on a road course in my base C6 - hopefully higher the next time around, but that is a whole other discussion.

The last opinion I would suggest is that I think it would be pretty short sighted for GM to give up a key part of the Corvette DNA by starting with a six figure price for a base model. That flies in the face of most of it's history. A cool part of this born in the USA car is that it is accessible. Start it at six figures and that changes. Sure people can always buy older ones that fit their budget, but that misses the fact that most of it's history, a guy could get into a new one and still have both arms and legs in tact to drive it.

Long live the Corvette!

if that turns out to be the case then I will have to divert my car fund to another vehicle when my C6 calls it quits...

Very interesting. Can't wait to finally see it and what it packs under the hood or trunk or engine cover.

I can't help comparing the Lotus Evora 400 to this concept.

Great looking concept. I think that the Ford GT was a great looking mid engine sports car as well, but I couldn't afford it at the time it came out at $150K and I sure won't be able to buy a C8 "super car" either. I think Chevrolet is making a mistake by pushing the Corvette up into Ferrari prices. It will wipe out a huge portion of the new Corvette market. Somewhere I saw a video where they suggested that GM could reprise the old Fiero for all of us "pobrecitos". It was a mid engine car with a popular price tag. I wistfully remember my '72 240Z with a price tag under $3,500. Even a kid starting out in life could afford that back in those days, but I suppose that all went the way of the starter home.
