For my use case, fitting one or two moderate sized roller suitcases (like I use to fly with, it's a tight fit in the overhead, but it fits) and a backpack is plenty of room for my wife and I to enjoy a road trip. We don't take the whole closet with us. Most of the times we actually share the same suitcase and do fine for up to a week, longer if we are going to see family and use their washing machine. My "getting groceries" in a car like this consists of stopping off on the way home for a few odds and ends we are out of, if its more than that, we take the SUV or truck. I don't play golf, but I can see the desire to carry something that size for some. But honestly, outside of the Cayman, what ME car can carry a golf bag?
EDIT: the whole "practical" and "carry golf bags" type debate is why I for one think we will see a ME car called Zora and a new/true C8 FE car called Stingray. I still feel it was not just marketing that had them bring back the Stingray name.
I only need space for two carryon-size bags so if the frunk and rear trunk spaces are odd-size but have custom luggage as standard equipment or a low-cost option that fits the odd-size, I think that would be enough for my needs.
Given how big the C8 appears to be I would think it should be easily able to carry a significant amount of luggage. GMs 1st mid engine could take a full size hard sided Samsonite suitcase and three medium size duffel bags. As well the engine bay could easily take an LS7 with no significant structural changes and yet it was considerably smaller than the C8. Hulki Aldikacti had designed the car from the start to be able to take luggage and a small block chevy so I am sure GM could make the C8 accommodate luggage if they want to
In a current FE corvette one can fit full sized luggage for two or two golf bags. It can hold enough in its trunk to easily carry everything for two people to take a nice couple week long vacation.
How is the Me going to compare. I keep looking at the pictures and I don't see anywhere where you would get any sort of space for one to put luggage. It would be a large disappointment to lose the practicality that the corvette had always had.
As important as golf bag capacity is, don't take your eye off the eight ball. The real issue is round tail lights. Oh. And the logo... Oh. And why not buy a Porsche...
I estimate the frunk is at least as large as the 488GTB frunk based on the relative side view and headlamp size as shown in the CAD which is fairly large!
I also feel there will be space behind the seats and over the engine based on the larger size of the C8 compared to the 488 and 911.
Given that the McLaren F1 had an extra seat and a V12 and still had a respectable luggage capacity I would expect the C8 to be able to have room for a couple of soft bags at the very least. It gets somewhat pointless if you're limited to weekend trips at the most due to a lack of luggage space. But golf bags? Why waste time on that game in the first place?
The C8 won't even have space for a box Kleenex. GM is expecting you to buy new clothes, golf clubs, etc...each time you travel to a new destination. Problem solved.
The 718 has a Boxster 6. 2 banks of 3 opposing FLAT cylinders. They can fit the engine lower than any other engine configuration and give back SOME space. You can't do that in a V6 or V8. It's unlikely that GM will develop a flat Boxster 6 or Boxster 8 to allow the additional spaces needed to put in a rear trunk.
And the thing holding back Corvette from being the best car it can be isn't the need to develop it around 2 golf bags or being daily driven, but the fact that it's a CHEVY and a base cost of 5 figures (actually those two are mutually inclusive). For what "it" is, the Corvette is already the best car it can be as a Chevrolet, and costing mid 5 figures to start.
We seem to have found the big issue with the C8. It is cargo room. This when many have still not gotten over the loss of round tail lights on the C7. Will it ever end???
Maybe the ME will have an optional trailer hitch and then you can use a small motorcycle trailer to haul your golf clubs and lawn chairs. Problem solved.
Corvette is not just the best Chevy. It's the best car in the world.

There is no car on the planet. And there hasn't been for decades, that provides the combination of performance, price, economy, serviceability, and utility that the Corvette does. It is an extraordinary engineering and packaging achievement that IMHO vastly exceeds that of any Ferrari, Porsche, or you name it.
Engineering and building a low production supercar with hand stitched opossum seats that goes real fast is not anywhere near as difficult as what Chevy and GM engineers have been producing in the Vette for DECADES. There is no close second place. The Corvette stands alone at the top.
Do you get that? The Vette is a freaking unicorn. Even freakier, it's a high production unicorn.
I am real unhappy with the apparent styling direction the C8 is taking. But even if my worst fears about the looks are realized, they won't impact the extraordinary, AMAZING engineering and packaging achievement I'm absolutely certain the C8 will be.

Don't forget flip up headlights...I'm STILL mad about that.
I actually agree with Flyingbunning in a way. It is much more fun to drive a slow car to its limits than a fast car slow.....unless you are at a racetrack or a HPDE and can set your car on fire and walk away without blinking..... I can push a little miata to its limits and have a blast. My 19Z06 on public roads, hell if I put more than 20% throttle, I'm in jail territory very quickly. Now I don't know it that is what he way referring to or not....just my opinion...
and it’s much more fun and requires much more skill to drive a fast car, FAST.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
