C8 Colors
Will GM stick with the current colors or will they go the route of McLean & Lamborghini and have in your face bright greens, yellow, orange, purple, and blues? Will they offer custom colors? What do you think?
As far as custom colors, the answer is definitively “no.”
We are going to see lots of nice carryover (current colors). We could see some new bolder ones. Chuck Philippi, BGA Body Shop Manager, agreed with me at this April’s BASH, that the Plant has the capability with the new paint shop to go to 12 colors.
When I followed up, “when will we see the increase from 10 to 12,” he answer the expected, for he likes his job, saying only that while we have that capability, I can not comment as to when we will go to twelve colors.”
If we do, that sure would open the door for some nice continuation colors, and some new and bolder ones. Might Shock (neon yellow-green) which is going into both the 2019 Bolt and the new Camaro, be one of them?
Think of most of the people who are buying. They want easy colors, black/ gray/ silver/ maroon etc, and a few younger guys want maybe a couple flashy colors, red/ blue/ yellow, ok some older guys might want them too, but the majority will be the older generation that can afford a new Corvette. I kind of hope they keep the orange and bring in a good bright green... it depends on how the color looks on the car. My opinion doesn't matter because I can't afford a new Corvette, nor do i even own one
Yellow does not sell that well, so I hope they bring us a Lamborghini-like bright green (GM already had it on the Camaro as Krypton Green), something crazy purple like on the new 720S and carry over the Sebring Orange. No need for any grays or maroon, dullest colors. Why would you buy a car so beautiful and ruin it with a color that hides and blends in everything?

To the same point, gray looks REALLY good on the 720S, just like it does on a lot of the higher end sports cars.
My C7 is black rose and it get compliments on the color every single time I take the car out.
I don't think a color needs to be in your face flashy to get attention, just something different from the norm. This, coming from a 32yr old.

I don't think yellow is ever going away because yellow is the color of Corvette racing. White, red, black, yellow, gray are absolute certainties I would think.
Exactly, for as Doug Fehan has said (paraphrasing), yellow is easily seen and if other drivers racing with us do not hit us because they see us in yellow, that is critical; and second, yellow is a great color to be see easily at a race for fans there, and for TV cameras to pick up, even if our cars are far away.
I saw my first Sebring Orange C7 a few days ago. My new favorite Corvette color. Subtle, unique, and classy looking. Never thought I'd think that way about orange.
I'll bet the new paint shop will enable some incredible colors on the C8. Maybe they can bring the paint quality up to a new level as well. Often I think half of a Ferrari's impact is from the quality of the red paint.
The take rate for Sebring Orange is really high, for example 34% of all ZR1’s, and also considerable for the SR, GS and the Z06 — in fact all above GM’s original projection.
I think the chances of it being offered for 2020 approach 100%.
Quite true! I normally head straight for bright colors like Torch Red, but on the C7 when viewed in bright sunlight (the time we tend to drive our toys) it started to blow out some of the crisp edges of the C7 design. I ended up preferring darker shades. So I hope to see how various colors work on the ME before placing an order.

I really, really hope they bring back black rose! So annoyed that I missed it for the C7 and would love to make up for that when choosing an ME.

Why would anyone buy a car with a flashy color simply to say "Look at me! Look at me!" ? I like dark gray and blacks with black or gray wheels. I like to keep a low profile.

I hope the corvette offers a wide range of crazy expensive colors to choose from as long as they offer torch red as a standard color at no extra charge,
torch red with black interior is a classic color combo for corvettes.

Already thinking about Yellow for the C8, unless there is a new color that makes the mid engine design look great!
Have had a Red '88, the 40th Anniversary '93 Ruby Red Metallic (purple,) a Yellow C6, Crystal Red Metallic 2014 C7 and wanting something different a White Grand Sport. Although I like the White (1st white car every owned) the rear sure shows dirt. Don't recall the Yellow C6 or the Red 2014 being as bad.
I think the key is with the different mid engine shape, color could be more even important to the look. Not my biggest concern as whatever will grow on me but like the idea of being more visible to 18 wheelers etc when on the Interstate. Plus in the South a light color is much better when parked in the sun. Assuming the yellow will be tintcoat it could be a good choice.
Will be interesting to see what GM elects to display at wherever in the launch. They are no doubt sensitive to how color affects the car's appearance, especially in pics.
Sebring Orange is a grand slam success. I get stopped in parking lots every single time I drive it with folks describing it with words similar to stunning. I've seen more upward pointed thumbs in the last 6 months, than I have in all of the previous decade. That rarely happened with any of my 3 previous Corvettes, two C6s and now two C7s, red, black and blue.
