The show is just the platform for press coverage, and given that platform many types of media events including live streams can be staged. It's not about reaching show attendees.
Staging your own event won't draw nearly the same amount of press coverage.
There are realistically three main logical locations for reveals. A race, auto show, or Concour. I've been to the Detroit Auto Show twice, Numerous F1, Indycar, and IMSA/WEC races with the 24hr of LeMans a few years ago. I've also worked at the Pebble Beach Concour for 8 years now. All are great fun to view and experience. I would rate the potential attendees at all three event types in their seriousness of viewing the C8 or any mid engine sportscar for that matter to be 1st-Concour, 2nd-Race, and 3rd-Auto Show. During both Detroit Auto shows that I attended, I went to see the reveals of the C6 ZO6 and a few years later to see the C6 ZR1. Both times I had to battle for viewing position to get a close look at the car with Mom, Pop, and their Kids. None of which had any intention of buying a Corvette. It was really a waste of my time to see the car up close and try to get any relevant info on the car from the beautiful robotic lady announcer. I would estimate 99% of auto show attendees are there to see other cars, trucks, economy cars, or whatever vehicles they might be interested in. Most are there to just pass the time on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon on a 10 dollar ticket and free for the kids. Of all the races, LeMans makes the most sense. That race is clearly the most important to Team Corvette and at least there are hundreds if not a few thousand potential Corvette buyers that are attending. They would most likely reveal the ME C8 ZORA at their Pavilion and have some activities at the Corvette Corral where European Corvette owners are parked and view the race. I thoroughly enjoyed LeMans and would go back if they decided to reveal there. That leaves the Pebble Beach Concour D'Elegance that satifies all the above requisite attributes and much more. GM could reveal the ZORA at the world class Quail Event and also have a display at Laguna Seca Raceway for viewing at the Monterey Historics. The Historics have massive crowds that are international and domestic. They should also display the ZORA at the Pebble Beach Concour on Sunday that typically has 15 thousand well qualified attendees to view it. Motor Trend has a 6 hour Sunday Show on the Concour and also would no doubt do a special on the ZORA for the TV audience. The whole entire week has large international and domestic crowds of well heeled potential buyers there. There is a huge Media center for Domestic and International Press Coverage. The top brass from every Sportscar company are usually there every year to reveal their latest. All of these companies typically build pavillions to preview and order their cars from. If Team Corvette and GM wants to reveal and promote to ZORA to the world there is no better place than the finest Concour on the planet "Pebble Beach".
