Default C8 models at release

Will we get the base only the first year and have to wait for the grand sport, z06 etc. as in models past or do you think this time with the frame bending issue they are planning on releasing more or all at once?

I don't expect them to change how they've done it prior.

Helps keep the revenue flowing.

Lower models at first. Everyone that wants a C8 will ****** one up. Then as higher HP models get released, people will trade in their base C8 for faster, more fancy models. GM scores multiple sales.

Good. I only expect the Heads-up display and NPP exhaust upgrade. If I have to go to LT2 for that then I will. Tentatively, I'll settle for DCT though I want a manual. Most of all I want THE CAR.

I agree with “base model” first year. Especially with a “clean sheet” car, GM will have their hands full making the one model reliable. I hate to think what they’d have on their hands by introducing engine and other HP versions upgrades from the start. Besides, as was pointed out above, what would we have to look forward to in subsequent years if all the “goodies” came out at the start? After that it’s “electric”...doesnt do it for me... just my opinion.

I keep seeing this. WHY do people think they're going to release all the models during the first year?????? There is SO MANY reasons why they are not going to do that.

Low volume, high $$$ ZR1 first. Base model released 4 years later. Makes perfect sense.

Ouch!
Don’t even joke around about that possibility ....
Although it would make some of the distinguished gentlemen on this Section of the forum rather happy...

Maybe that explains the expansion in Bowling Green,
They’re gonna create a wellness Spa,with tennis courts and hot tubs...
A perfect place where ,a fortunate few could go hang around while their ZR1’s are being built.

There's about 35-40,000 reasons why this won;t happen.

Base engine model only.

If you're praying for a C8 manual transmission, you'd better get busy on a new C7. You're going to be left out in that regard.

I see no mention of a C8 convertible on initial release date. On the C7 release a coupe and convertible were released.
Do you think a C8 convertible will be released with the coupe first year?

Things that you should expect for the first model year:
  • Your choice of a Targa-top coupe or hardtop convertible
  • Only available with an 8-speed DCT
  • Only available with the 6.2L OHV LT2 engine; should put out ~500hp and 470-500 lb-ft of torque, as it’s just an updated or cammed LT1
  • Same 3-tier trim level system
  • Z51 package available with bigger, drilled and/or slotted brake rotors, 6-piston front calipers, Magnetic Ride Control suspension, Heavy duty cooling, and Michelin PS4 tires
  • Greater standard technology and higher-quality materials inside
  • A wider range of interior color and customization options to chose from
  • Available Autonomous safety features, for those of you who enjoy feeling secure while driving around the city in your 500hp mid-engine sports car
  • Most stuff you can get with the C7 should be available or standard
Any of you who are 100% stuck on having a manual should start looking at the heavily-discounted C7’s right now. Don’t waste your time praying for a manual C8.

Actually, this sounds pretty reasonable and may be likely to happen. Will miss the manual trans.

Any predictions on weight of car? Lighter? Heavier?

Weight prediction: 3,300 lbs +/- 50 lbs.

Wishing for anything under 3,200 lbs is a pipe dream IMO.

Agree, I think this is very plausible prediction.

The C7 convertible didn't go into production until December 2013, nearly 6 months AFTER the coupe. I assume the C8 coupe/convertible will follow the C5/C6/C7 coupe first, convertible half a year later.

If you look at the leaked interior pictures, there’s no place for a shifter. The DCT gear selector looks like a set of buttons or something to that effect, not a conventional lever-style gear selector. I don’t know any cars that offer both an auto and a manual and don’t have a lever gear selector for the automatic. If a manual C8 ever happens, it would have to be an option for thousands of dollars. Some performance shop might make a manual conversion for the C8 if GM doesn’t offer a manual, but that would probably cost $10,000 or more considering the engineering, design, and manufacturing that would go into it. But that’s a lot of speculation and likely innacurate price ranges on my part. Others here can explain why the C8 won’t have a manual better than I can, including the engineering complications behind it.
