I feel your dilemma, I am wanting to get into a new Vette myself but the C8 is so close to release. Patience will be key with how everything with the C8 unfolds.
For those of you that won’t buy a first MY because you’re afraid of potential problems, how many of you have actually bought a first MY before and had problems? I bought a first MY C6 and a first MY C7 and I only had each car in for service once. No regrets. I’ll probably buy a first MY C8 also. And if your rationale for waiting is that the C8 will be very different, GM has been building automobiles for a very long time. This isn’t their first rodeo.
I'm with you, why not buy it right away and enjoy it. It'll have a full warranty and most don't keep it longer than a few years anyways. When the issues start to come up, hopefully the next owner gets to deal with it under warranty.
You may just want to stick with what you have if you're concerned about the money factor. There's nothing wrong with a C7 Stingray. If it's not fast enough then you can always supercharge it.
The C7 GS is one heck of a car. In fact, you already have a great car. To be honest, I'm still enjoying the heck out of my C6!
I would say if you want something new, get a C7 GS now. Enjoy it for 2-3 years while you wait for the C8 fervor to die down a bit.
Patience... Dust is swirling everywhere and obscuring exactly what the car will look and perform like. Let the dust settle, your happy now - be happy tomorrow. Remember that you can often tell who the pioneers (aka beta testers) were - they are the ones with all the arrow holes in their backs. C8 base cars will be all over the lots in 6-7 months at MSRP, and not too long after that, with significant discounts.
Think I'll pick me up a GTR until the "beta" testers work out the bugs/the Z version is released...But I still cant wait to see it...it looks bad *** in cammo
I'm waiting until the 2nd year. Love my C7 and it's a 7 speed. There will be someone who wants to grab the gears out there looking for the manuals. My car has been a dream, no problems and just normal maintaining for the 4+ years I have had it.
I expect no less from the C8
Man I don't know what to do. I have the 2017 Nike Air Jordan's that lace up the top of the shoe but the 2020's are coming out and they lace up the side. I hear this is going to be the end of the line for the top laces. Honestly I don't know what took so long. Everyone knows that side lacing is much better for stability and balance on the court. In fact Jordan always wanted Nike to manufacture the shoes with side laces from the beginning but Nike was afraid the general public wouldn't accept such a radical design and frankly they didn't have support from the CEO.
Now that the side laces Jordan's are coming out I'm wondering if it's time to maybe consider selling the 17s for when the 20s come out. It's such a 1st world dilemma...I mean I'm not going to be the cool kid on the block anymore...
Give me a break...
So what you're sayin' is I should've waited from them sweet sweet side lace AJs but I wasted money all these years buying the top lace ones?? Thanks a lot for not letting me in on the know earlier bud
IMO I would hold it. After the announcement yesterday, there is so much c8 hype that the c7 has already taken a hit.
Better to enjoy it for longer AND I think there will be a group of people who inevitably resist the new ME platform and want to pick up a c7. For that reason, I don't think the c7 market will plummet when the c8 drops.

In 6 months, the C8 will not even be in production yet... so how are they going to be sitting on lots, let alone at MSRP??
You will not find a C8 sitting on the lot until at least March 2020. Production starts December 2019.
Too early to tell. No idea how many units per year. No idea what the actual price is. No idea when production and sales will start. Chances are it will be very limited during the first year or 2. Chances are dealers will get sticker price, or above. Which means no big hit on the used. Once the pricing and availability of the C8 become normalized, I would expect a decent hit on your C7 value as there will be a lot of C7's hitting the market.

I’m sure he means 6 months after production begins. I purchased a 2014 C7 Z51 off the lot six months after C7 production began (March 2014) and was able to easily negotiate $10K off (MSRP was $70K), paid $60K.
Ill probably try to do the same same thing in early 2020 on a C8.
I'll keep my 2019 GS until I find a C8 that I fall in love with. There's going to be a strong resale market for years to come for the C7. Even if the base C8 is $62k, a Z51 version with a few options is going to be upper 70's to 80's. Compare that to a 3 year old Grand Sport C7 for $50k - different market.
As long as you aren't upside down in your payment, you'll be fine.

Sorry for ruining your forum bro. You win the internet. Congrats.
Am I the only one struggling with this question(s)?
I currently have a C7 which I love very much. It's the most fun I've ever had in a car. That said, I'm starting to wonder, is it time to sell in preparation for the C8 or do I keep on making payments with the hope of trading for one next year? If I sell now, I'm likely to recover a lot more value than I will when C8s are on the lots but that means maybe a year or more with no Vette at all.
Part of me wants to jump on a new GS or Z06 (I just have a Stingray now) as the prices start to plummet but then I'd have to wait longer to get my hands on the C8. Is that a bad thing? Do I really want the first year run of the C8 or do I want to let them shake out the bugs before taking the ME plunge?
I'm not as financially well off as many of you. I'm not poor but I don't have money to burn either. That's why this is probably a bigger issue for me than it is for you guys with the deeper pockets.
Thoughts?
im looking at a similar issue and will likely trade my C7 GS for a new style Viper. The Viper holds its value better and I’ll buy a C8 “Z06” when the time comes.

The C6 was just a a better C5. The C7 was just a better, much better, C6. The C8 is ALL new. Literally new platform that GM isn’t known for building. Chances for issues are higher for the C8 than previous generations.

C7s with a stick will prolly be worth 5-10k more over the autos.
