I hope they don't call the base model C8 a Stingray. It doesn't look anything like a Stingray. Just call it a Corvette and let it be. IMO, the C7 base car shouldn't have been called a Stingray either. I think they should have ended the use of the Stingray name when C2 was all done. Those cars actually looked like a Stingray. They should have let it die then and become part of Corvette history. Am I all alone on this?

Maybe you’re alone, maybe not. It’s not important to have the same opinion as everyone else. If that was the case, the world would be pretty boring.
IMHO, it's time for a change of all the monikers. Time to get rid of the entire Stingray, Z51, Z06, ZR1, Grand Sport names and recalibrate the Corvette.
But they won't do it. We've already seen leaks of the "Stingray" logo on the C8. Can you spell B-O-R-I-N-G.
My personal opinion is there isn't a "clue" in the world that this is going to be called a Stingray! It is a Zora from the "getgo!" Evidence Tadge putting the bunch of stickers on the car showing Zora's profile! The leaked images of the interior contained a heavily photoshopped "waterfall" area between the seats and it was called out by dozens of viewers, here an on other forums! Now, given that it's a Corvette Zora, it could be a Zora (base), Zora S (performance) or XS for the pinnacle of performance. The best news is that in 76 days, we will know most of everything.

It's even worse on the Camaro now. There's the 3LT, 2LT, and 1LT trims with the I4T and V6, but you can get an LT1 trim that's like the 1LT except with a V8, or an SS or 2SS V8. Don't forget the 1LE track packages that only come with manual transmissions, because manuals are really popular and GM wants to sell as many Camaros as possible, lol. But there's the ZL1 1LE, but don't confuse it with the ZL1 ZTK, because the 1LE and ZTK are both track packages but different.

Right on. All ME Vettes should be Zoras with a big Z on the side.

If it is a Zora then why call it a Corvette at all?
It is a Corvette first, then you can add package names if you want, but I would be in favor of no model names. How about a Corvette from top to bottom, no model names. Just Corvette.

Model names are different to RPOs that Corvette has had since the 60s. Stingray must go but you must understand what the other 'Monikers' stand for. Porsche uses project numbers for their model names. Non sequential numbers means that the project began at an earlier date. 991, 992 preceded 993,996,997 in race cars. Peugeot objected to 901, which the project number for the 911. The 911 project was different to the 901 project.
Corvettes RPO codes is similar but suspension, engine, axle, radio codes, etc, will remain. Check out your options RPO sticker on your Corvette. Option codes are often stand for a group of options. If you don't know your RPOs, you can get ripped with used Corvettes. Many cars and trucks model numbers can tell you a lot about the vehicle.

From '77 to '13, no Stingray emblems or wording was used, so 37 years later, GM brings it back in part as most likely an advertising ploy to use the iconic name again. I think it has worked out well, I bought a '14 Stingray with a Z-51 option package then waited for a second year Z06. Have not regretted either one, just a blast to have and drive, I think that's what it's all about.
It will be called Stingray. It will have a split rear window coupe model. It will have a digital rearview mirror. And God while you're listening put in a manual trans too. Sunday morning musing

The only Vette that should be a Stingray. All Vettes should take on the name of the concept that it was derived from. Duntov should be honored with the ME Vette. The Shark Zora for the HP version???? Mako Shark This C3 ZL1 hould be a Mako like all C3s.
