I sure hope not. Self-driving cars should be banned.

Blind sot detection is nice, but I hate the rain sensing wiper (which are never at the "right speed" and adaptive high beams (which like many things doesn't work well in urban areas); and adaptive cruise is 100% useless in metro areas as unless you like people constantly cutting between you and the car in front and you car auto-braking to maintain the "correct" (programmed excessive car lengths) it is more annoying than useful.
The key issue is all of these things add weight, and I am hoping the C8 is not 4,000 lbs.

👍 Exactly right. I have never used paddle shifters, why am I paying for them?

My 64 has the following extra cost OPTIONS. No one paid for them(on that particular car) except for the lady that originally ordered the car to her liking.

AM/FM stereo radio, $176.50
300 HP engine. $53.80
Automatic transmission $199.10
Power steering $75.35
Power brakes $43.05
Power windows $59.20
Positraction $43.05
Tinted glass-all windows $16.15
Whitewall tires. $31.85

Now all those extra boxes were checked off by a 45 year old woman who didn't die of a stress induced heart attack in the Chevy dealer in North Hollywood, CA. because she took a couple of extra minutes to review the option list and make the choice of those Options in which she was willing to pay for.

Those options added an extra $698.05 on top of the base coupe MSRP of $4037.00. If someone didn't want all that **** on their Corvette, and didn't want to pay for a bunch of **** they didn't want, then they could save 14.7% by not ordering all that **** that someone else wanted and was willing pay for.

If a person only wanted to pay $4037 for a new 1964 Corvette then they could, If all that extra **** was standard equipment, instead an option, then the car would have cost $4735.05.

I remember when I ordered my 1965 bench seat Impala. I ordered every option(396, 4 speed, etc) that was available to race NASCAR(I didn't race in NASCAR, but I wanted a car that was equipped like a car purchased for NASCAR racing). I even ordered the wider NASCAR wheels that had a special designed bead to help keep the tire on the wheel in case of a tire failure, that was an additional cost of $5(total for all 5 wheels).

I doubt that anyone outside of a NASCAR team, ordered a car like that for a daily driver. If a person didn't want all that NASCAR ****, then they could have purchased a bench seat Impala 2 door hardtop cheaper, and I bet most did.
.
Nice to be able to order the car like you want it, instead of how someone else wants it.

Don't know if GM will remove everything you listed, but if they did you would have that under 3K lb car that everyone wants.

We know new tech is going to dramatically change the car and the next generations will eat it up. Personally, I hope they do add great new autonomous features.

I don't understand this resistance to autonomous driving. Its not like someone is FORCING you. It's an option -- like cruise control.
Exactly.
My 2014 C7 had AFM. I never used in ONCE (manual transmission).
My 2017 SS will parallel park itself. I never use that either.
I'm with Bob...why all the hand wringing over stuff you DON'T have to use.

As long as they leave I an option, not standard equipment.

Instead of autonomous cars, we just need ignition interlocks that shut off the phone/texting when the car starts. Hands free is not inattentive free.

As long as it's an option and not standard equipment, enjoy your interlocks.

LOL You do realize sensors are much more reliable than human beings, right?

at 5:00, GM President talks about the new Digital vehicle platform for next 10 years, including C8.

He also said twin turbo V8 at one point, I continued listening to the whole thing, and can't find what minute mark he said it now.

Just read this today. I heard about it didn't believe it. C8 Corvette ECU Reportedly ‘Un-hackable’ Due to New GM Tuning Systems. Thoughts?

I hope whatever it does have defaults to off. I would accept blind spot assist, but I have zero desire for brake assist or lane departure stuff. I hate that crap in the newer mercedes we get as loaners for my wife's car.

I don't believe GM has any self driving cars today in production. I know they are investing in it. I hope the C8 doesn't become a test mule for the technology.
