The car will have the latest AFM. We've seen the dash showing a "V8" logo by the tach. It wouldn't say this if there weren't other modes.
Good thing is there will be no torque tube harmonics to deal with and no torque converter.
My Tahoe says V8 and then it says V4 when it drops using old AFM... That V8 in the photo doesn't mean it will have the newest one. (think 8 speed in 15 up, the trans was already out in 14...) But it probably will.
for everyone referring to old and new AFM, the new one is actually called Dynamic Fuel Management (deactivating all the way down to 1 cyl, vs the AFM can only go down to a V4, plus AFM deactivates the exact same cylinder banks, vs DFM changes it on a random), I imagine not being a problem deactivation so many cylinders on a performance car if it's fully doing it only in Eco or something like that.
Well, I sure don't want to get into that old discussion, so here's my comment and question:
For a system like AFM/DFM to show an EPA increase, it must be ON (default) when the car is started.
So...I wonder if the C8 is going to start up in "Automatic" with AFM/DFM enabled?

Yes it likely will and GM may prevent you from disabling it. Tuners, like Range, will try to figure out how to disable it. Thank the government.

Even back in the day GM didn't easily let you turn it off... you had to get creative. I'd imagine in track mode or something it'll be off though. It is like that currently I believe.

The GMC Yukon XL's AFM is a miserable nuisance. C8.....here it comes.

No, on a MANUAL C7, AFM is engaged only if you put the Drive Mode to "ECO" (car defaults to whatever mode you were in the last time the engine was shut down). On an automatic C7, AFM is on all the time, unless you put it in "M" and use the paddles.
I wonder if the C8 will operate like that....using the paddles disables AFM?
