I'm a convertible guy but I'll have to see what this looks like in person. The targa might be the best way to go with the C8. I want to see that engine!

I've read a few comments in other threads as well about hoping for a hard top convertible with a window to view the engine. Is this a thing? I've personally never seen a mid engine hard top convertible with a viewable engine.
So this is not an official OEM thing, but for the Ferrari 458 and 488 spider, Capristo makes a clear engine cover panel for the spiders. It might be possible for GM to have an option to make the tail end of the engine visible. Honestly, it will probably be an aftermarket thing if the retracted roof does not cover the entire engine.

Thanks for share the Ferrari photos- I was curious if a mid-engine convertible had a viewable engine. I really hope the C8 has this option- recognize that it might not be as "pretty" when the top is down, but with a hard top convertible, I want to see that beautiful engine while the top's up!
I wanted to convertible but looking at the coupe from a flat side view they look almost the same, the only difference is the small space between the buttress with the small windows, taking the targa roof off manually might be work for some but the look is almost the same as the convertible when viewed sideways, on the other hand you can see the engine on the coupe, ill trade that little space of openness for the chance to dress up that engine, just my opinion.

Don't think GM will offer this option but looks good!
Weird.. there are 3 engine slits in the first pic and 2 engine slits in the third pic. Or is the "third" one just a shadow?
The third slit is not really visible in the last shot as it appears to be a raised fin, so you aren't able to see under it like you can in the first and second photos. So I think you aren't really wrong that it is a shadow.
It looks very similar to the operation of the McLaren 720S convertible hardtop. It even has the same risers behind the occupants, probably for roll-over safety. I'm guessing it's going to be nearly the same. There's but so many ways to skin that cat.
