How often will any of us have the need or the desire to be cruising at 100 MPH and then get to 170 or 180 as fast as possible? Gotta love some of the remarks here like the "C8 falls on its face over 100" revelation especially from a guy who has never driven one.
Who gives a ****? There is nowhere in the US you can legally go that fast. On road courses anything over 160ish isn't needed. This car will probably hit right around 155-160 on the back straight of VIR. 180-190-200 all meaningless.
If it was meaningless GM would of geared the C8 for quicker acceleration and lower top end.
Wow, that's really deep Dude.
What about the family you take out when you lose it at 180 MPH. I guess they were all going to "die sometime" also and just needed your help. Amazing stupidity, scary stuff indeed.

Life is temporary. A long life is a matter of strategy and luck. I would think that a little planning and caution go into where and when to use the power you control. Group think does not accelerate progress. I suppose none of us need the Government help as it is selectively applied. Many times help does not consider the results of that help. You are a doctor and help people live longer. The over populated world does not need more people living longer using resources faster than nature can provide. In the big picture more generations will suffer due to your efforts.

Beautiful, we can control this population problem that you describe by people driving near 200 MPH? Put down the crack pipe dear.

Quicker than 2.8 0-60 and a 11.2 quarter mile with only 495 horse? That's exactly what they did. They geared the car for acceleration and road course use. On the top end they want cruising efficiency for road trips. Ultimate top speed is very low on the list of design parameters.

You are smarter than that. You seem to want to argue. The population problem is never considered when people are focused on details and ignore the bigger picture. The odds of getting death as a result of a car moving over 200MpH is far less than many other ventures such as illegal immigration. Probability depends on many factors not just your emotions. I suspect you have lots of knowledge of drugs. Food in itself is a type of drug do we want to force the fast food industry to stop because people die from there activity? Perhaps you might compare the deaths due to eating fast food to the deaths of driving more than 200MpH.
You know what I meant... geez... people are so touchy here. Settle down, settle down... no need to call me stupid even if it's true
At 190mph on a public road, risk is higher something goes wrong and the downside is also higher. That's all. The squirrel piece was a bit of a light hearted joke but apparently everyone here needs to vehemently protect their god given right to drive 190mph whenever and wherever the heck they'd like!
True... I suppose it would be a fun way to go! Personally, I'd rather do so in my sleep at 85 but maybe the thrill factor is too low that way The bigger risk is getting messed up and not dying... my wife warns me about that all of the time when I go to the track... if I get in a bad accident, come home walking or don't come home at all!!
Reminds me of an old joke:
When I die I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather rather than screaming in terror like his passengers.

Thusfar I have only made it to ~155 indicated. The car pulls strong at high speed but not like the modern supercars with 600++ horsepower (obviously). I feel like with enough room I could touch 190, but I imagine it will be a pretty slow climb from 170-190. I don't know if 194 is really feasible, but I'm sure someone will do it. An indicated 194 probably. We'll see.

FWIW, the squirrel disintegrates at 190mph.
Most birds too, first hand experience on a motorcycle.
Don't remember where I read this but top speed for the non Z51 is 194 and the Z51 is 186. Too fast for public roads and
it took forever to get the car to 194. from 160 it is s l o w. There was a video also.
It takes almost 30sec to get from 190 to 194. I imagine it's even worse getting to 186 in the Z51.
In USA, 194 in a C8, or anywhere close to 190 for that matter, is probably only achievable on public roads. I don't know of any track where you can go flat out for that long.

i recently did a poker run and had cops shut down a portion of interstate for everyone. I hit 174 with my z51....and you’re 100% correct..after 160 it is slow to gain speed.
Top speed is absolutely bragging right,
i have done 146 on the highway, I was dumb, I admit,
look at Nissan GTR for example, top speed is about the same or less than most corvettes, but it’s a awesome sprinter and that’s a lot more fun,
so C8 having 190 mph top speed is just about perfect.
The Callaway Corvette Sledgehammer hit over 250 mph at the test track in Columbus Ohio many years ago But it was cleaned up aerodynamically and had an alleged 850 HP.
Nevada used to have an annual blast down the highway. Don't know what the top speed was there.
A twin turbo Ford GT hit 300 mph in the Texas standing mile with very minor aero modes.
You can rent the Space Shuttle runway at NASA in Florida as McLaren did for their speed run.
The C8 is in no way optimized for top speed

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
