Why so many buttons?
New and innovative would be a voice activated control system that works for the driver and passenger voices. Buttons and ***** are old school. The screen menus are problematic. Robotics and AI are new and helpful. The wall is insulting to the passenger. It says " this is my car - sit still, don't touch, and watch me have fun! " The wall is stylist eye candy with no justifiable function. The statement that every button earned it's place is an excuse used to keep the old school buttons in place of a 21st century control system. This is a lot of automobile, but just as with most new designs it has some compromise. Sometimes you just have to take what you get. Or, not. Pat
I wish they at least color coded the buttons maybe in groups for example all the buttons for the driver are in one color and for the passenger another so that you can quickly look over and get your hand in the area you want to be in.

It is a strange layout and not very ergonomic, but it looks a lot better now than it did in the early leaked spy pic. Not as steep a ski slope as I had thought.
And, I still can’t figure out this GM design of making the display panel look like an iPad propped up against the dash. They are doing the same thing in the new Caddy’s. Makes the screen look like an after thought that I should take with me when I get out of the car.

Wonder how many ****** and grab thieves are going to be disappointed to discover it isn't a ipad ?
As far as tabletish screens, thats the design cue of the day. Ford is going all in on it too.
First, I am really liking the new C8 more than I thought, but the one thing that is irritating me is the interior layout. There is a long row of buttons that create a wall that separates the driver and passenger with a large screen and the awkward wings that stick up from the dash. Not sure what the wings are for, but they don't bother me like the wall of buttons. With that large screen why does there need to be any buttons? They appear to all be for HVAC controls, I don't understand why all those buttons couldn't have been integrated into that large screen on the dash? Physical buttons seem outdated, I mean seriously my car has climate control and I can even remember the last time I used any of the buttons for controlling the HVAC system. Ditch the buttons and go modern. Also why such large bezels around the infotainment screen, looks like there should be something below the screen, like buttons or something?
Though I imagine what we see now won't be exactly the same as what we get. So it is possible there may still be changes.

I was hoping for this gen they would make the buttons or the "pod" smaller than the previous gen and cleaner. I am not a fan of that row of buttons. There's just too many. That design works for the Camaro and the new blazer because its stuffed between things on the dash and mounted left to right..
The C7 "pod" suited me fine. Step up from C6 but now we have this intrusive 9ft long row of buttons in between the driver and the passenger.. idkwtf they were thinking but that is hideous imo.
The wall itself would be a better look if it had zero buttons on it... and I hate that wall lol.
