Newbie here...Now that GM has opened to order input (not accepting), how does the process work from a dealer standpoint? I put my deposit down and not sure where I am in line, but interested to hear how the process works...Does the dealer start putting orders in the system all at once or will the first folks in line get input then a few months later, the next folks are inputted, etc?
Didn't know if all orders are input at once and based on order of input in system is how they are allocated? Thanks in advance!!
Talked to a dealer this past weekend and he has one quick order in the system, so she gets #1 of his 29 allocated. Her order was put in like the above post. The system opens for orders with pricing on the 15th and a lot of folks are waiting for the pricing before ordering. He had a sheet with 29 spots and 3 names on it with deposits. So, If I put down a deposit I still have to sit down and order the car on the 15th.
I'm #3 at our local Hendrick dealer. They have 19 allocations first cycle and est. 75 for MY 2020. When pricing is available on 8/15 they will start putting in orders. I was told I would get a call to come down and spec the car. Then as allocations open up they will match inputted orders with allocations and the car will be accepted by GM. I am 100% sold on Rapid Blue so my personal order will roll back until Rapid is off constraint. So I will probably move into the 2nd wave even though I am #3.
A customer ordering from the dealer is a separate process from the dealer ordering from Chevrolet. Customers can order from the dealer whenever the two parties agree to do so. Dealers can pass that order along to the plant (that is, place an order with Chevrolet) only during a scheduled order cycle, let's say for the sake of argument every other Monday starting October 15 (just an example).
The dealer can order from Chevrolet in a given order cycle only (a) if he has an allocation for that particular order cycle and (b) if he orders a car that is immune from whatever constraints were placed on his allocation for that particular order cycle.
Large dealers will get allocations and be able to order multiple cars in each order cycle. Large dealers are also less likely to be impacted by constraints, as they tend to get more than their fair share of constrained options. Small dealers may only be able to order a car once every three or four order cycles, and are more likely to have those orders restricted to unconstrained options.
If pricing is available on 8/15, when do we think we'll be able to configure models on the Chevy site with pricing? I remember when the C7 was introduced the Chevy site configurator was late and performed very poorly. The current configurator is nice but woefully inadequate for detailed pricing.
He's wrong... so long as your dealer has your order in when ordering opens up for them to match your order with an allocation is all that matters. My dealer is getting 75 2020s and they aren't taking any orders until pricing is out on 8/15. I'm #3 on their list.
Because we don't know pricing or constraints... you ordered a base zero option car. I.e. the "other than black" engine covers appear to be on hold. You may decide you don't want to wait for an engine cover that's easy to swap out. If you got in now, you'd have to go back and change your order. More work for the dealer and more opportunities to make an error.
