Thank goodness for that. I just saw that article as well but I noticed it's omission pretty quick. The chrome/polished wheels looked gaudy and old fashioned and thankfully they finally dumped them. There's a reason why Ferrari's Lamborghini's and Porsche's don't have such options. For those that are hell bent on having them I'm sure the aftermarket options will suffice.
I love chrome wheels, forgetting whether the stereotype fits old farts or not. However, on my most recent vette, I ordered the machined aluminum wheels. Not because of the stereotype, but because the Chrome was a major PIA to keep clean. I could never get the "black grease" off the wheels entirely and over time, unless I was going to take a drill with a soft tip to get all the nooks and crannies, there would always be some spot that was impossible to get clean. The machined aluminum wheels not only look good but are much easier to keep clean and even when they are dirty, they don't detract from the overall look of the car. I would deft recommend them on the C8 as well.
Jeff, you’re making a hell of an assumption about who loves chrome wheels. At 68, I’ve never been a huge fan of chrome wheels. I generally go for the polished bare metal. I do like the flash chromed trim rings and center caps of my C2 rally wheels, but polished wheels for my C6. Although I’m not a huge fan of any of the choices, I think my favorite C8 wheel is the machine faced trident.
Conversely, I personally don’t care for the black wheels on MOST cars but it’s color scheme dependent. I do like black chrome which looks good on a lot of the gray cars.
I don't remember chrome wheels being offered from about 76 to 92-93 or so?
I know my brother's 81 was stock and had factory silver looking wheels and so did mom's 88 Z51.

It is not my assumption, it is the article's author's assumption. I just thought it was funny and informative so I shared it. I'm 72 and although I've never been a huge fan of chrome wheels, my 2006 C6 vert did have them, and I was 59 then, far from being an old fart.
I'm 62 and haven't really been a chrome well guy since the Cragar SS wheel days. I did my config with the shiny trident wheels but I did go for the chrome flag hood emblem...just as an old school homage.
I commented on that article. Jalopnik (and other blogs in the kinja portfolio) does a lot of boomer bashing because that seems to be "in" these days. Apparently it is okay to make generalizations about an entire demographic as long as that demographic is not based on race or sex. For the record I'm not a boomer.
No black wheels for me. If I had to I would go aftermarket and get the chrome. If I wanted to look at 4 black holes I would watch the Disney movie 4 times !
