Any word on when the convertible will be to rolled out and available to order ? Any guess on price ? Anyone who already ordered a C8 coupe feel like they may have regrets if the convertible becomes available before you get your car ? Is that video floating around on the operation of the retractable hardtop an an actual production car ?

Rumor is that the vert will officially be introduced this fall and available beginning sometime Summer 2020. The video is not an actual production car. It is a very realistic animation. If you want a Vert, don't order the coupe. Why order a car that you don't really want? It's your money and you are driving your car. No point being the first to get a car just for bragging rights if it's not really what you want.

Rumor is October 18, 2019 is the reveal for the C8 Spider!
Ordering will be in quarter 1, 2020 maybe...but the Spider might be pushed back to a 2021 model so that would mean ordering second quarter 2020...like May or June 2020 for a September 2020 first allocation build. We will see.
Maybe the convertibles (Spiders) will be 2020 models too.
But all the dealers know what the full allocations are for the C8 Couple...will the extra allocations be for the Convertible (aka Spider)?
With demand so high and the release sequence and dates being what they will there will probably be a lot of guys who get a coupe when they would have preferred a convertible after seeing it and also guys who take a convertible because the coupe allocations might be too far out. I have never owned a convertible or had any real desire to but that retractable hardtop with the twin humps looks pretty cool. I won't know how I feel about the vert until I see it and the price so the quandary is wait to see the vert and not like and miss out on getting a coupe until 2021 or get the coupe and then regret it when I see the vert... At this point money is down on the coupe for #6 of my dealer's first wave of 10 and I want a car yesterday...
My guess is they will debut the car in October with the C8-R and it will start production as a '21 MY in June, but some are saying it will be available to order in November as a '20 as well. Current price difference for a C7 vert is $4,500. Some are saying $5K difference, but unconfirmed.

Think of it this way. Since the engine won't be under glass, you won't have to order the custom engine cover or the carbon fiber/LED lighting, which probably totals at least $5K. Could be a net savings! LOL.

Yep! No engine cover and no transparent roof, but the roof bar looks like bad news for tracking it for tall people assuming it passes tech.

I've never had a targa top, but currently drive a convertible hard top. Doesn't seem to be huge difference in "openness" between the two in the C8, but being able to open and close without getting out of the car is the main advantage of the convertible. No checking the weather, planning ahead, do I take the top off or leave it on? Try removing a targa top and stowing it at a stoplight. Or putting one on by the side of the road in a sudden summer afternoon downpour. Obviously depends on where you live.
I was wondering why they couldn't leave the glass in the rear lid--at least you could see the engine when the roof was closed. But then, the engine compartment is not waterproof, so the targa headliner would get wet, maybe?
Looks like there will be plenty of preowned C8's for sale because people were so impatient that they bought a vehicle that may not be exactly what they wanted or not knowing that a better option was just a couple months out. They may be selling at a loss.
When I put down my deposit at my local dealer for a vert c8 (I'm first or second on the list apparently) he was pretty certain it would be a 2021 model year and set an expectation of late 2020 for delivery. It is a small dealer so they dont have lots of allocations but I tend to agree on the timeline

Mine asked "do you want 2020 or 2021?"
I said 2020. He said... no problem. Debut 2 months from now. Production start 2 or 3 months after the coupe (best guess).
I still want to see what it looks like and costs and may still switch back to a coupe. But my feeling is it's going to be a convertible for me.
Why would Chevy want to get the Vert going early? Simple. With the Vert they will get about 10-15% more orders. That might be enough to warrant a second shift and get everyone's cars out earlier. And, let's face it, GM wants to show a profit as quickly as possible as well.
Lastly, dealers are asking for them. Its a triple play.

Mary Bara announced in NY that the start of C8 production would be 2 shifts
I guess the other way to look at it would be to get the base coupe and then to wait for the convertible Z06. At that point I'll have enjoyed the car for a couple of years and the resale will probably still be pretty good. With the C8 being such a revolutionary vehicle, most of the standard rules of buying and selling may not apply... A Z06 convertible is sure to be $100k car so it's going to take another $50k minimum to trade up vs $30k more to just wait with no car...

Exactly my thoughts.... I'm buying a Z51 coupe now. I'm not giving up my spot in line to sit in a convertible in the spring only to find I can't fit with a helmet due to that bar and that the buttresses have no structure and it won't pass any HPDE tech.
If it does pass HPDE tech and I can fit in it with a helmet, then I may trade for a vert down the road. I'm done keeping cars "forever".
It's too bad because if the retractable top is like $5-6k more and the car looks the same I would definitely get it and I'm pretty sure that so would at least half of the buyers getting coupes in 2020...
