From what I can tell, this car probably won't fare very well in a tsunami . . . or an asteroid hit . . . or a nuclear explosion. You can bet they didn't test for those things.
First off, Chevrolet cars are not the fit and finish of Porsche vehicles! That is one of Porsche major luxury selling points over other German luxury brands. If the C8 can come out clean in reliability ranking like in the low 80s, I will be happy owner.
A friend has a C7 ZR1. Has to load/unload the trunk from the sides, do-able but a PITA.
Thats with the high trunk floor in the C7 so probably easier than the C8 will be with it’s deeper trunk.
It's good that these pre-production issues are pointed out! GM is listening! I would say that with the exception of the non aligned stitching, the quality of the 3LT is up there with some cars costing much much more! It is a very high-end interior!!
I also noted and thought the spoiler should be attached to the hatch to limit damage and or difficulty loading the trunk.
I am sure the engineers could have figured out a way to maintain the strength of 400 pounds of downed force by locking the hatch in place. If they can’t, give me a call!
remember this antiquated FE car? seems like it did "ok" around a track or two with the wing attached to the hatch..
As for the open hatch grill, I was a bit surprised that it is just open grill work. They have been extensively testing these cars in the rain and snow so I would imagine it has not caused problems other than potentially a messy looking engine bay I wonder what happens if you get caught in the snow and the grill gets packed with snow or ice?
I know many will say you shouldn’t be driving your car in the snow like that but since they’re testing included driving in fairly deep snow I would imagine it is not completely out of the question Maybe the grill is electrified for heating elements ? ; )
i have yet to find the situation where introducing moisture into a vehicle and it was a "benefit" in any way... how many of these will be washed, blown off and pulled 20ft back into a garage to just rot anything metal on the inside of that compartment... but they had to evacuate heat somehow.. and if you want a removable top, a trunk to store it and luggage capacity? you're getting a vented engine bay with large openings.

the trunk in the C8 (if you haven't touched it and looked into it personally) is not that deep. it fits the top but at an angle and i was surprised it has that many cu ft of storage capacity given how shallow it really is.. the HUGE muffler is directly under the trunk....
To the guy ranting the Porsche has better build quality I'd like to mention his 3 items can be fixed with the 80k difference in price. But I cant get over the Porsche looking like a vw Beatle
Was told today the NCM that any water coming through the vents is a non issue. The electrical connectors are water tight and this appears to be overblown. Most of the potential water intrusion appears to be on the sides of the engine over the exhaust area.
.Looks like detail spray will be useful in preserving the underside of the hatch and the rear trim inside the hatch.
The only real issue that bothers me is the lack of a screen in front of the radiator on the passenger side intake (behind the door). You can reach in and touch the cooling fins on the radiator. I would think that the radiator would be very difficult to clean. I can also see a rock getting thrown into the intake. I asked about it at the reveal I attended and I was told that no screen was planned. I happened to see a McLaren yesterday and it did have a black, stamped sheet metal screen with small holes inside the opening of the side intake..

Yep, a Porsche and a Beetle look exactly alike. I almost confused them.
With GM's track record, I have no doubt there will be assorted issues. However, it is clear to me that many here have never seen pre-production vehicles before with the myriad flaws that never make it into production.

actually no, the C7 ZR1's ZTK spoiler is attached to the frame, not the body....but you knew that already.
Engine bay heat will melt it. Then it's the same as rain.

There have been times when you go out to a store or movie under fair skies and come out to a blizzard with freezing ice/rain.
I am sure these conditions have been considered and as you say engine heat would melt the ice. Probably just have to be careful not to damage the magnesium grill if you try chopping ice away !; ).
Not a true worry or concern.
For a little extra help I will keep this in my frunk bag with my tire pump, etc. But I doubt I’d need to use it often.

Even the new 992 911 has rattles in the doors when you turn up the stereo.
