I am curious about the method of making the deposit once it is required. I am not talking about the initial deposit to hold a place in line. This is the one where you tell the dealer your build. Which of these is being accepted?
Personal Check mailed/dropped off?
Electronic transfer from bank?
Credit Card?
Cashier's Check mailed/dropped off?
I am hoping a credit card will do it, but certainly willing to do anything necessary. I realize from dealer to dealer it may be handled various ways.
Most dealers I have ever worked with will cap the credit card amount you can put down on a car (usually around $1-2K or so) because they have to pay fees. My guess is either you will need to do a wire transfer or hand them a certified check. I paid cash for my last couple cars with a certified check.

$2000 refundable deposit which becomes non-refundable when order is accepted by GM. That's it. I did my deposit by wire transfer which is free from my bank.

I only put one deposit down with MikeFurman. Did so by CC over the phone. If your dealer is requiring a secondary deposit, it is time to get your money back and call Mike F. He has open allocations.

I am using Mike Furman! I am talking about once your number comes up and you need to COMMIT (WEEKS/MONTHS AFTER the initial hold-your-place-in-line deposit), don't you have to put around 5% down, and spec out the car? That is not the case?

I know these people putting down non refundable deposits are risking a lot.
5% of $85k is only $4250
But I guess if people really want their C8....they can do what they want to do.

No. Never have had to do that with Mike. Rest assured that if in the end, you were not to take the car, he would sell it in a NY minute.
I never give an additional deposit when GM accepts my order. I have a $500 wait list deposit which is refundable until GM accepts my order. Your dealer is the one asking for this. So, it is up to you. Pay the extra deposit or move on to a dealer that does not require the second deposit.

WOW, I had no idea. That must be why Mike told me when once he got my specs, he would expect me to take delivery. I said once I get to that point, I AM IN! I am months away, and living vicariously through many of you. I thought for sure I read in some of these threads that 5% was asked when submitting the desired build. I guess maybe some do.
Thank you for the clarification Mikey and others. Incidentally, I am surprised Mike Furman still have allocations left. I put my deposit down 15 days ago and thought I was at the very bottom of the list!
Mine was initially $500 deposit, then 5% of the MSRP for down payment. I think ALL the cars will have the 5% down to launch the build of the car. If you order some odd combination they can still sell the car on the lot (probably with a markup). It deters people from canceling or even changing orders. Makes sense and goes to the overall cost of the car. I'm planning to put between 35% and 50% down anyway so it's not a huge deal. Wondering now what rate GM financing will be in the spring too.

That is totally incorrect. MacMulkin required $2000 deposit - that's it. They're the #2 Corvette dealer in the nation. They also have ZERO dealer fees.

Again, This type of business is completely up to your specific dealer. For example mine required a $1000 but completely refundable deposit. GM does NOT require any money down just to "launch" the build of the car. That 5% is all on your specific dealer. My dealer is NOT requiring anything else other then the $1000 all the way up to me going in to take delivery.

Most cars are not going to have a 5% deposit. It is your choice to put that much down. Once your car gets to event code 3000 there is a very good chance that you will get your car within six to eight weeks. So, it is up to you if you want the dealer to have that 5% for up to two months before you get the car. Event code 3000 does not usually happen the instant your dealer enters your order. If your dealer gets the 5% when he enters your order, it could be many months before GM accepts your order (event code 3000). And, remember, GM is selling the car to your dealer not you.
