Default 16 seconds?

I love the look of the new vert and will likely go that direction. However, does the 16 seconds to open/close seem excessive?

My wife's Mustang vert can do it in half that or less.

Watching the videos it seems faster than 16 seconds. Looks like 10-11 seconds?

So really we're arguing about 3 or 4 seconds.

Got it!

Son..... I remember in the old days when you pressed the button it would take 30 or more seconds to put the top! Yep. Those were the days.... How we survived I just don't know.

Isn't the mustang a ragtop vs a hardtop vert? If so, in my mind it SHOULD be faster if its a simpler design. Correct me if im wrong...

There are people on this forum arguing over tenths of a second. All I'm saying is 16 seconds seems long.

Yes it is a ragtop and likely that is why it only takes about 6 or 7 seconds (simple mechanism). But 16 seconds, as published by motor1, seems slow by any standard.

The average convertible takes about 10 seconds to put down the top, but that is for a soft top. I think a hardtop, considering the weight and the way it folds, takes a bit longer. 16 seconds is fine, unless you are looking for an excuse to save $7,000.

It probably takes 120 seconds to remove the targa and it isn't advisable to have your passenger try to take it off at 30 mph either.

16 sec was how long it took in my '11 Z4 (another hardtop) and you couldn't even do that while rolling.

You have to keep in mind it's a balance, any faster and I'm sure you'd stress the motors.

Motor size x Packaging play a part as well.

Could it be possible that it is faster when not moving (dealing with wind resistance)?

I've never had a vehicle that could open/close while moving. I wonder if that is why it seems faster when it was debuted vs what motor1 is reporting.

I've confirmed it can open in about 11 seconds. The 16 seconds has to be if its moving with enough wind resistance to slow closing.

The McLaren 570 was published to take 18 seconds but it opens much faster based on youtube videos I've found. It can also close while moving which is likely where the 18 seconds comes from. Essentially the published number is worst case it seems.

So I answered my own question - you guys can close or delete the thread.

Good lord, I can't wait until the C8 is actually in owner hands so we can talk about stuff that matters, and hopefully have fewer of these inane thread subjects.

16 seconds is still a lot faster than you can store the targa.

There was a club for guys that could remove the targa in record time..... FRC is what it was called........ Now going back and getting the roof off the road was what took a long time.....

I was driving with the targa top out of the car with a passenger one day and it started to rain. While moving at 30+ MPH it was fine and nobody was getting wet. When we came to a stop sign, I got out, opened the bonnet, grabbed the lid, and put it on is just about 13 seconds. And off we went.

You guys would never have survived the days of yore driving MG's and Triumphs when you had to remove the top and then fold the frame and store the whole contraption in the trunk.

Or own a Jeep Wrangler soft top, that had to be completely unzipped broken down, and additionally you then had to find a place to keep the soft upper door halves.... if you wanted to bring them with you.

Is 10 to 16 seconds a problem? I really could care less what the Mustang's time is.....

This isn't a competition.

No one made it a competition. It just seemed slow compared to what I consider a lower tier car. And I confirmed through video that it doesn’t take the aixteen seconds anyway.

Lot of jackass posts here if you don’t like the topic just don’t ******* read it or post in it. I don’t give a damn about how slow convertibles used to be. This car is a 2020 model and should compare to other 2020 cars.

I cant understand why there are so many corvette owners here who just want to **** on each other constantly. Just close the thread already.
