Default C8 Museum Delivery question

Quick question...How many of you who put in orders for the C8 Stingray are taking the museum delivery? Im strongly considering it for the C8 Z06 when it comes out. I figure the experience is second to none and the drive back home to New York with the wife should be awesome! Have any of you ever taken delivery at the museum? Thoughts? Is it work it it? If you can share any specifics or pics would be helpful! Thanks!

Been there; done that. Loved it. Easiest way is to fly into Nashville, get an Enterprise rental car, stay overnight 2 nights at the Drury, which is one exit north of the museum. They feed you breakfast and a light dinner including drinks, as part of the service. It's not as cheap as some places, but the flip side is it is very nice. Get up next day and travel one exit down the freeway. Give the rental keys to "your guy" and be done with it. Spend the day at the museum, hopefully by the time you do it they'll have the plant tours back. Drive your new Vette back to Drury and DO NOT PARK under the "Big Tree" because the birds will make short work of your car. Leave the next morning for New York. Beautiful drive.

I did it. Drove it from Kentucky to Vegas. Its fun and seeing the factory is interesting. I thought it was worth the $1000 but honestly the trip home was even more fun (despite leaving in a snowstorm!)

If you decide its well organized and easy to do. I flew into Nashville, stayed the night, and drove an Enterprise rental car one way to Bowling Green in a program they have. I think I was at the factory about 2-3 hours and then on my way. I spent the next night in Memphis.

I have museum delivery on my order. This is my first brand new Corvette (6th overall) and I've always said I'd do R8C if I ever bought a brand new one. However, if the plant tours aren't open I may cancel.

Was there ever an option to watch your car being built on the assembly line?

Yes... Corvette Buyer's Tour. It's separate from museum delivery. You can go watch your actual car be built, but then it has to go into QC hold so you have to come back in 2-3 weeks to pick it up or let it be shipped to your dealer like normal.

I considered it but the thought of getting rained on makes me cringe. I’m about 1,000 miles from Bowling Green, so driving at 60 MPH would take 16 hours. Too risky that I’ll get caught in a rain shower.

(Queue the “the car won’t melt!” responses).

Your car gets "rained on" right at the end of the production line. Thousands of gallons water get shot at it from all angles.

It's a car... it won't melt... GM water tests it before you ever get it. It gets rained on in QC hold.... and eventually you'll have to wash it.

I did it on October 17, 2013, 6 years ago last week.

Drove up to Bowling Green with 3 friends from Austin, Texas. The day after, we drove the "Tail of the Dragon" then headed back to Austin. What better way to break it it?

For the C8, not doing it because looks like delivery will be March and don't want to risk get caught in rain, ice, or snow storm. Getting it delivered to Henna Chevrolet in Austin this time.

Considered it, but my understanding is that even if you elect for the museum delivery option, you still get charged a destination fee. I would honestly rather just see the car built on the line anyway. Hopefully they have tours back open by the time the first cars are going through.

That is correct. The car still gets delivered - to the NCM. Just the same as one getting delivered to the local Bowling Green Chevy dealer. Delivery is a flat charge regardless of distance to the point of origin. The NCM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization - it is not part of Chevrolet/GM. Your R8C delivery helps support the NCM.

It would be way cool for sure but I would NOT drive a $125+K (the C8 3LZ Spider) car cross country without a full front end PPF...if I could secure a PPF job near the factory it might be a consideration but I would rather have my PPF/Wrap 3M guy do it as he has my 911 Turbo and my '16 Z06 Vert. BTW, Semper Fi...I was in 2/7 and 3/1 back in the early 70's. Made it through Indoc and 90% of BRC but got dropped due to a stress fracture that just would not heal, still an issue 45 years later...Fyi, back in the day we had 3/4 of my BRC class dropped on day 1 during the pool tests.

You can use XPEL TRACWRAP for a quick DIY to get the car home. Some have even done blue painters tape. You can also get a nose bra. Several options beside having to have PPF professionally installed around Bowling Green.
