Just put in an order for a C8 with Z51 package, saleman told me that in order to get the different suspension modes that you had to have the z51 package . Is this true? I think they call it Magnetic ride control. Thanks

Yes that is true, but you also have to buy Magnetic Ride Control as an option, it is not standard. You need Z51 in order to get Magnetic Ride though, so if you didn't get MSRC you're on the right track and if you did then you're all set.

Zora is correct. I would get it. IMO the Z51 would be missing a very large piece of its soul without it.
"Hype" has nothing to do with it. Not sure what hype you're even talking about.
Some members act like it's the second coming of Christ and some admit it doesn't make much of a difference. I personally feel like it's not worth the extra money and repair costs down the road. You also lose that "sports car" feel IMO.

False. You get the Sports Car feel and the Grand Touring feel just by spinning a ****.

if you want a ride like a buckboard, get the Z51 without the mag ride

Uh... what? I bet you haven't driven a C7 with magnetic ride or any other newer GM vehicle with it. The C8's new version of it is even better.

Totally misinformed. You do NOT "lose that sports car feel". You can dial the suspension from a compliant Tour mode to a nice firm Sport mode to a very firm Track mode. Most of those that claim it doesn't make much of a difference have never owned a Corvette with it. I've owned Corvettes without MSRC and my latest C7 Corvettes has MSRC. I won't have another Corvette without it. It's that good.
Reports of excessive repair cost are also overblown. New MSRC shocks can be purchased for around $350 each although they don't frequently need to be replaced. Also, the Chevrolet Platinum Protection Plan (extended warranty) covers MSRC shocks.

IMO, nothing could be further from the truth. In my C7 it goes from “cushy for my girlfriend” feel to bone-jarring for the Track feel. Also, I’ve had Mag Ride in FOUR Corvettes and not one Mag shock has failed on me. Finally, the cost to replace a GM Mag Ride shock is about $1K each at the dealer, or if you’re a DIY person, the GM OEM Mag Shocks are available for $300 each through RockAuto.com .

Especially as they seem to be discontinuing some parts so quickly. I could do without it but guessing most wont keep them outside warranty.
x2 on some going gaga...just to say Z51. How many can really push it that hard to say glad I got it? not many.
Technically, you don’t “need” anything.
Real question is do you want the best suspension tech available in 2020 for a dual use street/track car.
If you are on the fence I would recommend to definitely get the Mag Ride. The difference in modes when you first switch them is a “holy s*** reaction. Car really gets “track only suspension” stiff.
There is no chance the non mag suspension can replicate the performance of the 4.0 Mag Ride. The difference between the 2 extreme settings is far too great.
Here is Tadge discussing something of the previous generations Mag Ride development:
