That depends on how you define "shift time". By one measure, it is zero because the shift can take place without any interruption of power to the wheels. But many torque converter automatics can do this too.
We have two or three different takes on DCT, and Edmunds just raved about it. We actually dont know until production starts how it stacks up, but it looks promising.

What I want to know, is:: if I hit the up-flipper 4 times in a single second,
a) will the transmission shift up 4 times in that one second?
b) will the transmission shift up 4 times?

These are loaded questions with dual clutch setups. If your car is anticipating upshifts, as it would be if you were on the accelerator pedal, it can theoretically shift 4 times in a second since it is pre-selecting the next higher gear once you request an upshift. However, dual clutch transmissions have this as the worst case scenario: On the accelerator, request an upshift, then immediately request a downshift...all while staying on the accelerator. When this happens, it has already preselected the next gear up, and it has to undo it and select the gear below. This can take some time.
