When I take delivery of my C8 from the dealer I want to transport it to the shop that is going to apply PPF. Don't want to chance any stone chips driving it there. I will be using an enclosed car trailer for transport. Does anyone have advice/point me to a website that can educate me?
I did a great deal of research on this. I am picking up my car in my enclosed trailer as it might be bad weather and I have a 3 hour ride home. Want the xpel done also.
the only way to tie the car down is to have tires over e-track which is mounted to the floor. Next use straps that tightly go over tires and the ratchet will be far enough away from tire. Make sure the points where straps are hooked to eTrack is as close to tire as possible.
There is a temporary PPF that is normally used to protect a car on track days. Xpel calls theirs TracWrap. I'm going to use it for my drive home from the National Corvette Museum delivery.
I don't have an enclosed trailer; I have an open trailer with D-rings (no E-track). The C5, C6, and C7s had the transport slots that work well with T-hooks. The transport slots are just aft of the front wheels and just forward of the rear wheels in the frame rail. I used this method of tying down my C5 Z and my C6 Z for transporting my car to autocrosses and track days. Probably a total of 45000 miles of transport over the past 15 years. However, for you, accessibility might be a challenge depending upon your enclosed trailer set-up (wheelhouse clearance, etc.).
I used Road Wrap on the front of brand new molded fiberglass trailer for trip home from the factory, 800 miles and worked as advertised. May not be pretty but will allow you to drive vehicle to PPF shop without worry of rock chips. Just keep in mine this is temporary use product and not designed to stay on more than a few days.
