I'd like to think people would do their own research to determine what car they would want when dropping 60+ grand. I was stuck in this dilemma and it came down to a few things.
One car is 5 years newer. Better technology and interior. Less people have seen it.
I like automatics, namely DCTs, and the C7 automatic is trash.
Mid engine.
I'm not a track rat, and 650hp/tq is just overkill for me. Though I live in Texas so it's probably far more usable than many other places year round. However, 500 just seems like a better sweet spot.
Only reason I see someone getting a C7Z over the C8 is because they like the way it looks more, want manual, really want the extra power.
The c7 automatic is trash? Lol. Now I’ve heard everything
I've heard people, in full seriousness, claim that the A8 transmission in the C7 is the worst modern automatic that exists.
LOL. Now, I have never actually driven an automatic C7 as my car is an M7, but from everything I've seen, shift times are fantastic, leaving it in auto mode works great, only when you are in manual mode do the shifts have a bit of a delay. Now while obviously no ones calling it an incredible transmission, its far from trash IMO.
Not at WOT. It shifts when commanded. People that complain about the A8 are usually those who had an early example when the software was new (it has had several enhancements) and the old fluid which caused all kinds of issue..
Everyone buying a C8 should PRAY gm and Tremec got this one correct out of the box... A8 issues didn't pop up for close to a year if you look back...
And the two cars couldn't be more polar opposites. Like comparing a 911 to a Z06... everyone has a preference. I wouldn't own a sub 500 500 car after experiencing a Corvette as powerful as this. Forget dead stop launches as it fights for traction. Go to pass someone or take off from say 30 40mph. It's a rocketship.
If it was good would it warrant a stickied thread? People constantly complain about shuddering and needing to get the fluid changed. Sounds pretty trash to me.

You sound like a few here with big big opinion's but never actually drove the A8 really and have no idea of reality. I really like the A8 and I'll like seeing you in the 495hp C8 for your interstate thrashing you will receive!
Best keep it C8 vs C7! Many C7Z06's are very lethal running around with much more than the stock 650 hp from the huge aftermarket the C8 lacks so far.

Don’t forget that the C8 probably has a similar 50-80mph to a base C7 time since it wouldn’t have the advantage of a dig. C7 Z06 would probably kill it in that range. No one is talking about that.

Cool a car with more horsepower will win in a roll race. That much is obvious? The point is that while everyone can sing the praise of the A8 and it's shift times, it is known to have issues. Issues to the point where people get the manual not only because of enjoyment, but to avoid the chance of having issues with the A8. Issues to the point there is a class action lawsuit.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I didn’t think the A8 was very good. And YES I rice it a lot before deciding on the M7. GM sold it like it was on par with a DCT. Odd they chose a real DCT this time around, lol. For me in this order:
1. M7 (fun factor)
2. DCT
3. A8
4. SMG
I was NOT impressed by the A8 in the C7Z. I wouldn’t even think about comparing it to a good DCT...like in a Ferrari, McLaren or Porsche.
The last two days I've been watching the YouTube stars out in Las Vegas driving the C8; many have preordered, and uniformly they pretty much love the car. One refrain was it was a completely different car than the C7. My impression was for 60K why would you buy a C7Z, and as has been well said here already: you want a manual, the horsepower or you prefer the look. I'll take the C7Z
I have had no trouble with the A8 in my 2017 C7Z and bought it because it had the A8. That said, my C8 HTC is at 3000 status and I cannot wait for it to arrive. The C8 will be the around town fun car while the C7Z will be the touring car with AS3+ tires installed. The 30 to 120 mph time on the C7Z is so nice when passing cars on the two-lanes - too bad the heads-up display lags behind the actual car's performance a bit too much for my liking.
