Leave deposit when placing order. Pay remaining balance when the vehicle arrives at the dealership.

In my case, as I am having Courtesy Delivery to a Chevy Dealer 30 miles from my home:
Paid the $1000 refundable to a large Forum Dealer.
When they placed the "planned order" with GM paid ~5%
When the actual build order is placed with GM, i.e. when their allocation allows, will pay the Dealer in full (or that is what I recall I did with my 2017 Grand Sport.)
In any case, it was paid in full before it got to the Courtesy Delivery Dealer.
Paid the $350 Courtesy Delivery fee to that Dealer when I drove it home.

RISK: Yep, there is a risk with Courtesy Delivery. BUT in the case my Grand Sport the Courtesy Delivery Service Manager (great guy) found two spots with a small amounts of dirt under the clear coat, I would not have found. He said, your choice but we could have our body shop see what they can do. We drove the car the 100 yards to their shop that services both their Chevy and Ford Dealerships in the same area (and regular repair work. ) The manager said he could fix it in ~ 2hours, which they did. Could not tell there was ever an issue. The Courtesy Delivery Dealer gets paid by GM for the PDI, in my case separately to install the side skirts and splitter for the Stage 2 Option I ordered and I'm sure the paint correction!

Is that the same deposit i made for one of the allocations that the dealership had to be put on a waiting list or is it another deposit on top of that?

The dealer didn't tell you anything when you placed a deposit with them?

Oh, well that puts a whole different light on it, sorry. When you get home, the deposit is the deposit, no more money to change hands until delivery. You do need to be ready with your configuration though. When I put down my deposit in late July, I think I built my order in early August. It just stayed in limbo (1100) until an available allocation came up. The dealer called me and asked if I wanted to change anything before he places it into the system. I said no, leave everything alone and it went in, now is at 3000.

There is no single answer that fits all dealers. Some want a deposit to get on waiting list and then another larger deposit when your order gets accepted by Chevy. Others only want the initial deposit. OP, you really need to ask your dealer. Financing can be done at the dealer when you take delivery or you can get your own financing at a credit union or whatever a little ahead of time.

Souns good. Now I just need to narrow it down from the four colors i like to one color before its time to put my order in.

I put a thousand dollar deposit and will settle when car arrives at dealership. I thought I was going to pay another 5% deposit when the order went in, but no need as this is just another car purchase.

If I could make a suggestion, either use this:

https://www.corvetteblogger.com/docs...OrderGuide.pdf

or use the configuration tool on Chevy.com and print it out. I prefer to print the order guide and use that, but I'm also a dinosaur. I would have the whole thing with every single option code in writing before you go to the dealer so you don't forget something.
