For one wanting to look thorugh the car behind to see the others behind that one, then yes, the license plate location is too low. Otherwise, the camera has a field of view adjustment (by remote control - bluetooth) allowing one to see far left and far right to the rear.
Looks like a good way to get a rear-view system that is nearly the same as that at the 2LT level (using the rear-view mirror as a monitor) without having to pay the 2LT price (as I mentioned elsewhere here, there is nothing else in the 2LT level I would even consider).

Actually, you may be able to mount it within the engine compartment facing through the rear window, or possible use a 3D printer to design a curved "shell" to house the camera at the very top edge outside of the rear window (similar height to the 2LT/3LT camera but ON the window rather than on the body structure) . Would be an interesting experiment.

There's no vehicle on the market that can currently drive at any significant speed with the back up camera on, as far as I know
You missed a critical point. The system I am looking at is more or less a C8 clone ... drive forward and the mirror is a monitor for a camera pointing backwards from the license plate.

You missed the critical point of me responding to OP, not you
The rear view camera on the 2020 Jeep Wrangler shows up on the information screen - not the rear view mirror. It has a switch that allows it to be switched on at any speed going forward, not just 8 mph. The camera is mounted on the center of the spare tire, so it is maybe 2 feet higher than the license plate on the C8. Since back up cameras all have a wide angle lens, they always display much more than the grill of the car behind, even on a C8.
Maybe someone will figure out how to make this work on the C8.
