Normal type of failure. Hiw many parts are in there? They always calculate a failure rate. With 3k built or so CTF and production? I'm thinking you would need to see maybe 30+ trans have to be swapped before they even blink

It was an oil leak. No mechanical failure. Most likely bad seal. Happens. Stinks but happens. No big deal.

The 8 speed in my 2015 quit at 79 miles. Wouldn’t go into any gear. Got the car back in 4 work days. GM had one overnighted to the dealer.

Agree fully, "Transmission failure" this is not. Transmission filter fluid leaks are well known. Others perhaps. For now this "Transmission failure" is a non issue.

It was just a leaky axle seal, that’s all. Covered in another thread on this board days ago.

After all the automatic transmission failures and having owned a 2016 Colorado I will never own a GM automatic again. No C8 for me.

I have similar feelings after the experience I had with my '16 Stingray. I'm waiting a couple years before considering a C8.

Though this looks like it is not a mechanical failure of the trans, it could very well be a faulty seal.
If so could be a failure that needs to be fixed on many cars.
The first year of a new DCT could be a tough one. Performance drivers beware

Guys...do you realize how many PDK failures occured and still occur in Porsche circles. Chill.

And that's the benchmark dual clutch on the market.

It is relevant. Do you honestly think manufacturers come out with perfect transmissions each and every time? Porsche are way more detail and engineering orientated and they still have their issues.

Yes this is relevant. Hell Porsche even had engine failures in the 14/15 GT3s and God forbid GM has a tranny leak... imagine engine failures on the C8..."ahhh sky is falling".

theres pros and cons to being first to have a product. I applaud those willing (I am no longer one) because without those brave enough? We wouldn't have new models lol.

Of course transmission failure sounds much more dramatic than a simple fluid leak. Oh my God what will we all do, what will we all do ?

Too bad GM did not choose to go with a bullet-proof ZF tranny. Nowadays the Trannies are far more complex than any engine especially the GM push-rod engines created in the 30's

That is why it is called a dual clutch transmission. A dual clutch transmission is sort of like combining two manual gearboxes, one that handles all the odd gears and one that handles all the even gears. Each virtual gearbox has its own clutch. That is how the shifts are so fast, you are always shifting sequentially so when you go up or down a gear you are really hopping between transmissions, with the help of electronics. Which is also why the qualify of the programming of said electronics can make or break the responsiveness and performance of a dual clutch. When shifting gears software handles clutch in/out for you which is why there is no clutch pedal even though the transmission is effectively working like a manual (you could never work the pedal fast enough anyway). My explanation is overly simplified, here is a more detailed look at what goes on:

https://auto.howstuffworks.com/dual-...ansmission.htm

This tech is not new, it's been in racing and other performance cars for decades. The specific gearbox in the C8, however, is new, and some teething problems should be expected.
