GM has gotten cheaper. We used to get a year or 6-months free with OnStar and Sirius XM Radio. For 2020 Vettes we only get 1 month free of OnStar. Set up that account when you get your newbie. Then, just before it's time to renew call them and ask for the cancellation department. That's the place where they can wheel and deal. Let them talk and make an offer. Then ask for the "GM Family Discount." Or you can tell them you're not sure how much you'd really use it and it's not worth it to do a year. They should give you another 3 months free trial easy. You'll get a deal. They don't want you to leave. Just be firm until you get the deal you can live with. I started off getting a deal for $199 some years back when list price was $299. I dropped it after a couple of years. I do have Sirius XM and I like that. I just travel a lot and don't really get to use it as much as I would like. But I get good prices on Sirius like $30 for 5 months service.
I'm trying to figure out why Harvey wants to extend it. When the Z06 comes out the car will be gone anyway. Maybe he thinks THIS is the one he keeps more than a year......NOT!
i should point out I assumed the first year is free, I could be wrong. I've had many GM vehicles with OnStar, and like others I had no use for it.

OnStar has a lot of benefits. One, if you crash and they send folks with your destination seem like a good idea to me. You also get unlock/lock your car via cell phone - this allows me to keep a spare set of keys in the car incase lose mine while walking around, etc. You can also setup so if you car leaves while it is parked somewhere you get a message. Also, can find your car.
To agree with call and ask for cancelation and get the best price you can.

No doubt, there is some value, but for me nothing close to what they ask. The crash assistance does not even come with the base package. If there was some minimal package that only gave the automated features for say $5/month then maybe I'd go for it.
I already tried the "on-demand diagnostics" when my main screen went dark, and they could only tell me to go to the dealer.
Where are these "advisors" located? US? I thought I read somewhere they were in the Phillipines.
GM would be smarter to give a 12-month free trial, and then maybe I'd change my mind. As it is, it seems really cheap to give us only 1-month.

For XM, we only got three months free, but Jeep gives you a year. But you only get 30 days of Uconnect with Jeep. I think they want a few hundred for it. It is equivalent to GM's MyBuick and MyChevy app that allows you to open your door , start vehicle, and monitor systems. It is free for ten years. At least on my son's 2019 Buick. Absolutely no use for OnStar.

There's been a thread or 2 about this. Everyone is sent a "welcome to your 3-month trial" by Sirius regardless. I don't care for it so did nothing, but there is a post from someone who called Sirius on it, and were told to go back to their dealer to sort out. Sirius didn't know about any 12-month trial apparently.

As Zymurgy pointed out you get 12 months on 2lt and 3lt. 3 months on 1lt.
