Default Radar detector power source

Has anyone found a way to tap the mirror for power? Blendmount does not yet offer a wire tap. Took them almost a year to have one from when I got my September 2013 made C7.

I, like many, used the fuse on the rear fuse panel that powered the 12 volt receptacle on the console and ran the wire up and under the passenger "A" frame molding. Currently my plan is shown below BUT if a mirror tap is found before my C8 arrives would be neater as I have used on my current 2017 Grand Sport. What have those with C8's used?

Just get the WAZE APP. it's better than radar for highway travel.

Yep, WAZE is fine on a frequently traveled highway. I live 20 miles from town and I95 is the quickest way to get there. I seldom use it! First, have to set cruise control at 77 as if I'm in the open or a lead car troopers coming from the other direction pull the trigger on their "instant on radar." Second and as important to me, is the many 18 wheeler tire treads on the highway. If following and SUV or Pick-up they just go over them and I have little time to react and can destroy my >$1500 carbon fiber splitter. Plus no fun driving that way. I take back roads past farm fields, several twisty locations etc. I have my ESORT Max set to warn me of the places I have seen radar, some traps! I mark all school zones as have seen officers with Laser's standing behind tree's and clocking cars. Especially bad near the time the reduced sped is almost over and no kids around!

I have been saved several times on 4 lane highways where WAZE would not have identified police cars in our rural area. One I recall was on a 45 mph 4 lane highway where everyone usually is traveling ~60. Pulled out of FedEx as a group of cars was coming so accelerated fast. Fortunately the officer pulled the trigger as soon as he saw my Grand Sport accelerating. That blast caused me to back off near redline in 1st and didn't have to hit my brakes but was close to 50 mph and it coasted down in speed! Waited until the pack caught up and sure enough the police car was in the lead! Have had other similar occurrences.

I won't drive without a detector. Have wired them in my '88, 93, 2008, 2014 Z51 and now my 2017 Grand Sport. I'll connect my ESORT Max to the C8, wired as I show in the pic or to the mirror for power if someone finds out how!

Yep, that's it, never exceed the speed limit! I'm sure that fits most Vette owner's!

I use Waze and a Radar Detector and I read the tail lights ahead of me... Following to see some actual radar detector mounts... Trying to Ignore what seems to be the obligatory "Why would you want to do that ? " posts".

One should use both. I love Waze. However I would use a quality detector if I could only have one.

You can also use an add a fuse and run a wire up the mirror. I did this on my C7 and it was easy.

There is a 12V power outlet below the glove box on the left side. Run your fingers under there and you'll feel it.

Jerry......like yourself and many of us.....what it truly boils down to is once our cars are on the road and available....someone will get a car and figure it out....considering that there are only ~2700 cars out there in the hands of the public, in reality, there isn't enough demand for someone to take the time to do it. Just like its the same reason that BLENDMOUNT hasn't developed a mount for the C8 either

guess we will just have to wait and deal with the cord for now.

Yep my plan and diagram in post #1 shows where it is AND the flush mount right angle plug I bought so the passenger is not getting their feet tangled!

I’ll use it and rough so you don’t see the wire like I did for my very early 2014 before folks knew the mirror could be taped (GM said it could not at the time.

But far prefer to use a wire splice to the mirror as I did for my 2017 Grad Sport IF someone’s out how.

Thought with some folks adding low restriction CATs and a few different headers someone might have taken the mirror apart before I get mine and do it! Always best if you know I can work.

For my early 2014 taped the passenger mirror light as I had on my ‘88 and ‘93 Vettes. In that case GM was right the computer monitors that circuit and it tripped a breaker! Fortunately it reset itself! But I agree, Blendmount has the incentive and could find the right wires quickly and supply the wiring kit.

Don't use a right angle plug there, instead splice to the wires that feed the 12V receptacle.

Yep some said that about those of us using fuse #37 in the rear for early 2o14s. However using an add-a-circuit to fuse 37 and routing the positive wire under the carpet molding took <10 minutes! Also the line was fused (in my case with a 2 amp fuse) from the fuse black. Wiring directly works but an in-line fuse holder a PIA change a fuse if needed.

Bought the right angle flush mount plug that includes a fuse for a few dollars. I’ll use it and when Blendmount comes out with their wire kit and I’ll switch over.

One of the best things I learned at Spring Mountain Driving School was look FAR ahead down the road. That does two things, allows me to anticipate and react if there’s an accident situation to avoid, and to see if people are jamming on their brakes because they see a police car ahead.

I failed to figure out how to access the 12V outlet under the glove box. I could get to the fuse block behind the glove box but all the fuses were always live, which is confusing. I wanted to find a switching power source so the radar detector only was on when the car was started. I didn't want to mess with the mirror cover or wire taps.

I accessed the 2nd fuse block on the bulk head behind the console. The only tricky part was disconnecting the small speaker wire behind the aluminum grill below the rear glass window. I plugged a add-a-fuse to the Li-ion circuit. That circuit didn't have a fuse so its my guess that circuit only comes into play when they add batteries and electric motor in the future.

I bought the $25 Escort remote cable extension and ran the wire up the A pillar to my detector mounted at the top of the windshield. Works great.

Thanks for the info. Were you able to get the wire behind the "A" pillar with a trim tool? I recall on the C7 it was very difficult to get the clips lose.

Of course its attached with clips, so you have to pull it free of the A pillar. I have various plastic trim tools.

Be careful with Waze. It's a well-known fact that police/troopers delete the entry alerting you to the fact that they are ahead of you. Where I live in the NY Metro area, the Waze entries are never accurate (police are not where Waze notes they are) or they are someplace that not one person has entered into Waze. Without a detector, you are a sitting duck. And without a detector and a laser jammer, you are an equally sitting duck in nearby MA. I'm not one of those who use a delicate touch on the accelerator.

Thanks. I also have a number of differ size quality trim tools. I recall the "A" pillar clips were so hard to get off my September 2013 built C7 I just got enough gap to slip the wire behind! I had an easier time (did not say easy) getting the lower rear bumper and lower vents off my Grand Sport!
