I think that BMW manual transmissions are primarily ZF supplied, but not sure of that.
I think that BMW manual transmissions are primarily ZF supplied, but not sure of that.
GM stopped making high hp capable standard transmissions some time ago.
My 1st Vette, a 1988 came with a Doug Nash (Detroit Hot Rodder) supplied, old GM design HD 4 speed with an overdrive in the tailshaft. The OD could be engaged in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Made a true, spread gear ratio 7 speed IF you pressed the button on top of the shift **** after shifting to 2nd gear. Then had 2nd OD; shift to 3rd and disengage OD for the next gear and so on! Did that occasionally for fun but mostly rowed through 4 gears and engaged 4th OD! Of interest only 15% of us diehards bought it that year as it was also the exact same price as the automatic!
My 2nd Vette, a '93 had a ZF supplied 6 speed.
Was between Vettes with my DD being a modified S-10, 5 speed truck. We had moved 20 miles from town and it was much better driving on the Interstate to work. Could just ride over the 18 wheeler tire treads often in the road! When it was time to replace, I looked at the new Colorado. I inquired about buying one (before any dealer locally had one to see in person.) That higher quoted hp 5 cylinder Isuzu engine sounded interesting. But could not find it available with a standard trans. Dealer salesman said that must be wrong I call the GM rep. I sat in his office >10 minutes getting irritated He came through the door and said,"Afraid you'll have to 'upgrade' to an automatic." Being mad from the wait, I got up, looked straight at him and said "You don't understand that's not and "upgrade, it's a non issue," and walked right out. Decided it was time for my 3rd Vette so picked up the phone and called Kerbeck and ordered a 2008 made just for me, with all the options, colors etc desired! Had been retired since 2000 and no longer had to take the Interstate to work so a Vette was fine.
That goodness that 5 cylinder Isuzu was not available with a standard shift as it turned out to be a dog. And frankly when I saw the newly designed Colorado truck in person, never liked it! Loved my modified S-10!
