Default Allocation month question

For a delivery in April 2021, what allocation month should my order be placed? In other words, for an April delivery when should I go from 1100 to 2000?

The backlog is huge. The factory has pushed back MY 2020 buildout twice in the last month. The MY 2021 to begin in the third week of November. Keep in mind there are a number of MY 2020 folks still at 1100 without a 2020 allocation. These will very likely go to the front of the MY 2021 build. No one knows how many of these people will drop out. but with holidays, and two shifts, my guess is it will take three or four month to build this backlog. I would order now, you can always ask your dealer to have you skip one allocation month if the backlog dwindles and/or manufacturing speeds up.

Thanks Mike. I am estimating that the remainder of the unbuilt cars at 3000 at end of 2020MY production will be completed by the end of January as 2021MY units. I understand that this is a WAG so don't anyone kill me. At that time the folks on the list at 1100 will start moving up to 2000 and on. I have had my order in since December and I am very high on the list for the next allocation and have the ability to hold off until whichever months allocation will get me a car in the April-May timeframe. That's what I am asking. What months allocation do you suspect will get my car delivered in April- May?

If you are in the next allocation, then as you say it is all about when MY 2020 allocations complete production. I had a post a few days ago that they would need to average 150 cars per day to finish by the third week in November. The highest daily production was about this before the COVID 19 shutdown. They will also have the holiday shutdown in December. My P50 bet would be that your allocation is a late January, early Feb car, but its just a SWAG.

THe way it looks like GM is handling this is that all orders that are 3000 will be built as 2020's. 2020 production will end in November, than 2021 production will start.

As to what dealers and GM are going to do with the people like me that signed orders for the April allocation consensus, is anybody's guess.

My "GUESS" for those with 2020 orders that are not minimum event code 3000 is when GM publishes the 2021 option prices they will tell dealers to offer those customers the "option" to get a 2021 and the dealer should put them ahead of their other 2021 orders.

Dealers can't take any type of 2021 order until GM publishes all prices including options. Even when 2021 ordering is open the "build 2021" order window will be a few months later providing folks given the option to get a 2021, time to make a decision.

I would think you would need to be in the allocations for the month of January for an April delivery. This is in consideration there will be a limited quality hold period less than the MY2020.
My 2020 had a Dec allocation, Mid Feb build date, Mid March delivery, was in the QH for two weeks.

My dealer says a 2021 cannot yet be ordered. He put me in line within his allocation, #3 for a 2021. But I can’t order.

Same with any dealer. GM does not have 2021 option prices yet! Need those to, as a minimum, place and order to get you to 1100. Means little except you'll get a piece of paper from the Dealer.

What is meaningful is your dealers allocation for 2021's and IF they can place a minimum of 3 "Buy Orders" when GM opens that 1st 2021 "Window." Then they will be able to do more than just place any number of "1100 Orders," which will be available sooner.

The fact that they have put you #3 is key, makes little difference to GM when your "1100 Order" gets in their computer!
