By the time I get my HTC the Insurance costs will be through the roof.
I got quotes a couple of weeks ago and the 2020 C8 was the same price as my 2018 RAV4. Compared to the overall collision numbers C8 crashes are pretty small.
mid-range 2LT model with several extra-cost options (including the Z51 package) like the one Copart is selling. Plan to set aside considerably more money if you want to give this gruesomely smashed-up example a chance: Its estimated retail value is $107,699. We won't know if it actually sells for that much until it limps across the auction block, and no date has been set yet, but it's the only 2020 Corvette listed on Copart,

That $107k price is the Copart "estimated" MSRP of the new vehicle BEFORE it got re-kitted. The starting bid/reserve will be based on a percentage of that estimated MSRP. The actual "sold" price won't be anything near MSRP given that a car with a salvage title might bring 50% of it's original MSRP.
PS: I'd never get within a mile of buying a "salvaged" vehicle.

The estimated Copart value is as a parts car donor. It has nothing to do with any MSRP. Real or imagined. This was a 2LT coupe Z51 with standard issue wheels. Likely new MSRP was mid 70s.
Oh hey that’s me! Now you know why my forum username is C8SideSwipe Yeah only had the car for a week before I got hit. Fortunately it was only minor damage and everyone was ok.
Ouch! Did this to the front splitter when I went off the road. Spun his peg around.

You and the motorcycle guy really got lucky on that one. I remember seeing the damage pics but couldn't find them.. Thanks for posting.. This gives me something to do while I wait for my 21 Vert. Anyone like to turn this thread into a sticky?

Show me the empirical evidence a "crash thread" here will lead to safer driving by C8 owners. How many of the pictured cars were owned by Forum members?

Why would you want or require "empirical evidence"? This comment is insane at best much like your emoticon. The better question to ask is: Will this crash thread lead to less safe driving? Kind of like chicken noodle soup. It may not cure you, but it can't hurt.
Here's larger view and a little more info about this crash. This happened in Nov 2019 on I-75 in Detroit. Given the timing I'd guess this is a preproduction car driven by a GM employee.

Do you really believe there are $107k worth of parts on this vehicle?
