Went into my local dealer this afternoon planning on placing a deposit for a 2021 convert and a 2021 Canyon ZR2 left without either happening. Was prepared for the 2K over MSRP and a bit surprised by the 5K deposit (but sort of understand the reasoning). The salesman was young and I think pretty new at his job and he said he couldn't tell me how many customers have placed deposits for the 2021 convert because they don't keep track (I sort of doubt that). Ok then trying to place an order for the 2021 canyon ZR2 also wanted 5K deposit and I felt that was to high. Also he said they have building the 2021 since April which I know not to be true.
From what I have read, it seems as they are gearing up build this truck sometime in July. Funny part I spoke with him last week and made this appointment and he seemed not to remember when I showed up. Not that I am compiling but he also forgot to get any of my contact info also a sign of inexperience.
Spoke with the service advisor that I have worked with since I bought my 2016 Z06 and got a name from him. Probably will go back in July and try again. I guess the good news is I didn't have to leave a 10K deposit for the 2 vehicles but disappointed as I really want to get a deposit in on the 2021convert.

If the salesman told you there is such a thing as a Canyon ZR2 I would look for another salesman. Don't believe there is such a thing. The Colorado comes in a ZR2 trim level, though.
What is wrong with young people today? They all seem like scam artists. Scam calls and emails, is just the tip of the morals and ethics they do not have.
Same ol' story, different verse. Too bad, but one has to shop around to find competence at dealerships (hardly just GM). Think how the entire auto owning experience could be different if dealers, managers, and employees (in some majority combination) were half-way competent!
Typical... you should have ended further conversation with that rep and asked for the sales manager. Cars sales is high turnover and most don't know their product at all (I was in car sales for a year and realized it wasn't for me, but I knew everything about every car on that lot).
