For those thinking about changing to ceramic pads , 1521, race pads or what ever , dont bother to get a 10 point socket to remove front pads. The fronts are glued to the piston, great German design? The only way to brake them loose is to remove the caliper. Just a time consuming pain of the ***. There is no room to wiggle out the pads from the top. The rears are the same as the C6 and C7, just drive out the pins an the pads come right out.
Did you try to drive an old metal paint scraper between the pad and the caliper housing to break the glue free, before removing the caliper?
You need space to undo/ pry up the glue. I tried it , it did not budge. Stock pads are relatively new, after 20000 mile or so , there may be room to work I've yet to see a video that shows someone removing the 10 point nut and removing the pads from the top. If you know of one ,please post.
I am at the point in life where I pay others to do it, if I keep the car that long.
I did it in 93 degree wet heat in NY , Can't imagine doing it in AZ, at 109, and don't tell me it dry heat. Worked on my son's Vette in Chandler in August., that was the last time I visited him in the summer.
Young people in general are more interested in Instagram FaceBook and Twitter than working on stuff, including cars. Us old guys though, like to tinker and figure stuff out, taught by our parents and grandparents... but I'm only in my 60's. Congrats on being able to work on stuff at your age (don't listen to the wife, at least regarding not working on cars!)

My wife told me I'm reaching that point. I'll be 80 in August. Hopefully I can work on the Vette for a few more years,( I never listen to my wife).
Keep up the good fight, my father in law is mid 80s now and says if it can't be fixed with a check or a credit card it won't be fixed. I'm 60 and I plan on going out with a wrench still in my hand. Stay strong!

SAME THING ON MY EARLY 2014 Z51(built September 2013!) It had the same strong, double sided high temp tape on the front brakes! Used for about the 1st 6 months of production. Had to figure out how to remove pads and not much help even from a friend who does European cars that use the same tape. Even called 3M who make this type of tape - NO HELP. Below pic shows what worked for me. Takes quite a bit of force with a hammer! This is a PDF with many pics of my brake pad installs on C7's. The 1st had the tape, the two on my Grand Sport, did not: http://netwelding.com/Ceramic_Pads.pdf
PS: Be 78 when my C8 arrives. Will do the brake pads, install the splitter and side skirts I have on order from C7 Carbon BUT may consider letting my Courtesy Delivery dealers, great Corvette Tech change oil! Be the first time in all 6 of my Vettes didn't do it myself!
Pic below is what I did (on left) and what you'll need for the C8 (right.) Would like some feedback from anyone trying. That's my plan:

I am the opposite. Because of Youtube, etc I take on far more projects than ever before.

Yep, I totally understand that, and specifically why I didn't say YouTube!! My sons were riding dirt bikes since they were very small and I have tried to show them how you have to work on motorcycles (or toy cars) or else you can not afford them. They just used YouTube videos to help them remove the old engine, rebuild it, then custom turbocharge a Miata (Ok, no Miata jokes, his other car is a Lotus Elise and my other son has a C6 he mods himself). Twenty plus years ago when they were in 3rd grade a teacher asked the kids to raise their hand if your parent's worked on their cars. My two were the only ones with hands up! I helped out in Scouts doing the various merit badges and most kids in our area had never seen under the hood of their parent's cars (and neither had their parents for that matter). Funny, one of my old toy cars (Ferrari Daytona clone I built, the Miami Vice "Corvette") still had an engine driven fan, so I made a joke saying that is what "pulled" the car around. However, it wasn't funny because most of them actually thought it was true. People all over my neighborhood hear my compressor fire up and impacts clacking and stop over for "advice" on what is wrong with their cars. I have become the friendly local "free" mechanic and tool rental store. It is all good though, save them from getting ripped off at the dealers or local shops who are a bunch of liars and cheats that prey on ignorance.

Yep, today if there is not a YouTube Video kids won't tackle it! Reading is only done on a cell phone and not more than 280 characters or they get bored! Recall daughter make her children use computers in the living room so she could see what they were looking at! My Grandson was ~16 at the time and I asked him to google something for me. He said Google? I use a YouTube search! Now all the Grandkids use their phone for everything, heck even my 3 year old Great Grandson is watching "stuff" on his cell phone!
I only make PDF written text/pic "How To...." documents for the Vette. Have ~45 and about 1/2 pics as learned long ago a picture is worth a 1000 words. Heck the one on brake pads is 29 pages long! I do have about 25 YouTube video's for my part time Internet business but if more than 10 minutes long folks drop off watching. (YouTube provides those stats.) Many are about 5 minutes. But they also take a lot longer to make and I can't put the detail I can in a written doc. For each video, I make a story board with pic on one side, text on the other. May have 2 or 3 verbal "takes" for each frame before I'm happy with the result. Hate home made video's that are poorly done.
Yep started working on cars with my Dad when I was ~10. By 13 was a gearhead and have read every issue of "Hot Rod" since! Today that includes Car & Driver, Road & tack, Automobile etc, did include AutoWeek until it stopped being weekly! My Dad wasn't, thought the '41 Ford Coupe I built as my 1st car was crazy! Cars are not my profession but have been a great relief from day to day pressures when I worked full time!
