It's a common complaint on here... Why are the wheels so ugly, why are there stupid notches/nubs in them... Why is black now 1k extra instead of 500... Why does the black wheel have a silver lip... Why are the Trident wheels so expensive and still ugly... Etc etc.
Different strokes for different folks... But many people agree the wheel offerings are junk. C7 z51, z06 style, GS style, or zr1 style are all preferred styles over either c8 option.
It is ironic that the base wheels are directional asymmetrical designed wheels, where when the wheels are rotated from side to side, it is a reversed visual difference of look. Since these are intended for the base car one would think the design should be symmetrical to have a consistent look from driver side to passenger side. The optional Trident wheels are symmetrical and do not have the visual difference. When the rear wheels are 20" and the fronts are 19", symmetrical wheels require only two casting die's or forms. Asymetrical wheels require four forms when casting to look correct. All the high end cars such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Aston Martin will always have all four location specific wheels when asymmetrical.
What are the little nubs called? And who the heck designed those and thought they would be nice or look good?
While there will always be better aftermarket choices, I think the wheel options are fine. What I don't understand is having to get 2 sets of wheels if you want Trident black.
I think the motivation behind the ugly base wheel design was to encourage people to buy the triton wheels for a extra $2500.
Of course. They know the base wheel is meh, so they bait you into getting the nicer wheel for an extra fee. can't hate'Em for it. just depends on how bad you want those black tridents

I ain’t haten on um, the cars a steal for $60k. I’d just get the base wheels in no cost silver and have them powder coated black for $500.

I'm probably in the minority, but of all the wheels they offer, I prefer the standard wheel. I agree it's not the best looking wheel, but I find it less ugly than the rest, as they are just too "busy" for me. Different strokes and all that...
I have no problem with my Standard wheels. I have access to PC them any color, but the silver color is a nice color offset. Black would be overkill. Lots of threads and views RE wheels. Personally, I don't get the fascination. IMHO, there is way too much concentration on wheels vs everything else RE the C8.

I'm not the designer, but the nubs may be an air flow disruptor, redirector, ...
That just sounds dirty to me. How about we call them pieces of Flair like from the movie Office Space.
I too like the base rims. Maybe it's because I am too cheap to spend on rims? The only downside for me is that it limits my exterior color choices.

I’ve never rotated tires on high performance cars with staggered wheel setups and most recommend against it.

Wish I would have done that originally. I will say when in motion the silver machined lip does bring some nice contrast vs a typical all black wheel (which ironically is what my 20/21” setup is going to be - full carbon flash).

What are staggered wheel setups? Do you mean front to back wheel size differences of 19" up to 20"? The only rotation for the C8 Stingray is side to side. Driver side to passenger side. Even then, some tires shouldn't be turned 180 degrees due to it's tread pattern being non reversible. I do realize that some tires shouldn't be rotated at all because of specific tread pattern at the corners.
