Default Tire Size Question

My apologies if this has been asked before, there's a lot of threads to go through and the search didn't immediately turn up what I was looking for.

Does anyone know the maximum tire width we can use on these cars front and rear even with a custom offset wheel? I'm looking at adding a set of Vossen 20" front and 21" rear wheels, I would like know if the tires can go a little wider than the stock 245 and 305 sizes. This is a Z51 package too.

Thank you all in advance!

jrhoades has the widest setup so far: front - 18x10.5 front with 275/35-18 and rear 19x12 rear with 325/30-19.

That’s not true.... @GSpeed is running a 285/345 setup.

Why the downsize in wheel diameter or is that a typo?

Is there a link to pics or information about that setup?

If you click that link and search for their posts you'll find their build thread. I don't have it handy.

Wouldn't it be dangerous to go over width on the rims with stock tires ? Like let's say you decide to go really fast at the track and hit 180 mph, wouldn't you want to be on the right setup? I think a problem at high speed could be catastrophic... Just wondering....

There are vendors selling 20/21" combos that claim they fit just fine and I've seen some posts that claim the front is a very tight fit going to 20" and might scrub in the inner fender in some circumstances. That's got me worried to go with a 20/21" combo.

If you ever track or autocross your car there are more options of sticky tires when you decrease the diameter !

Go to Tire Rack. You can research what tires fit what size wheels. Max size tires for an individual wheel width. I'd suggest going beyond what they recommend would be problematic. Don't forget to find a calculator that yields wheel diameter with bigger tires. To preserve you speedometer integrity.

For restricted purposes (like track driving) there are ways to limit steering lock so that bigger wheels do not make contact with the A-Arms (which would be bad.) This would not be wise on a street car that may have to negotiate a sharp hairpin turn.

Of course larger diameter wheels also help prevent the wheel from making contact with the A-Arms, but the compliance of the ultra-short sidewall is already limiting lateral grip.

It's right - it was based on the sizes available in the tire model I wanted to run, and maintaining a similar front:rear circumference ratio. Plenty of room over the brakes, pretty sure you could do 17's if you wanted.

My setup would go full lock to lock without rubbing, not sure theirs does - I think there might have been room for a little more in front with a larger diameter wheel though.

Ended up going with a 20/21" setup, 255/30/20 and 325/25/21.

I just drove 400 miles home after getting AGL53s in 20/21s installed. My car is also lowered. I didn’t experience any kind of fender rubbing and did plenty of u turns, ramps, bad road surfaces and twisty roads. I’m keeping my 19/20s for performance use but 20/21 seems just fine for the street.
