C8Jake = Great CF member with some “interesting” ideas ...
Put a bungee through the striker and attach it to two plastic anchor points ... it’s not like the striker is a critical point of contact for the whole mechanism that should be left unobstructed
Put a carabiner on a perfectly functional and discreet loop ... I guess for those really in need of that extra inch or two of reach and like having a hunk of metal sitting there
Eliminate front ducts... I mean who cares about aerodynamics when you have the cleanest looking C8 possible
Mad scientist or great at trolling CF... I’m genuinely not sure

If it happened to Jake it can happen to anyone. Here is my quick fix after reading Jake's post. I took a 3/4" adjustable band clamp and played with it a little bit. Finished product. I used the short bungee chord and hook it to the top two chords at the top of the net that came with the car. Better than nothing and it will have to do until GM comes up with a solution.

I used to have doubts about C8Jake's veracity as well (back to the days when he was C7Jake), primarily because of a lot of unnecessary posting of pictures and one word cheap shots. However, I've also seen numerous instances of him providing EXTREMELY USEFUL INFO.
This is not trolling, and I'm sure what he says happened with his car, happened. He's been a Corvette mega-fan for a long, long time, and if he reported it, it happened.
Im calling it here. User error. You cant modify a part and claim the same thing happened. Way too many unknown variables. I have yet to see one track video where this has happened or one person with any content. That's way too suspicious. Not one MAJOR CONTENT MAKER has said anything or ANY test vehicle with HUNDREDS of journalist and multiple cars. C8 Jake is a true enthusiast, but the trunk mod could be the cause?
For the umpteenth time, it doesn't matter whether it's user error or not. It's a potentially fatal defect. No one deserves the death penalty for making an easy to make mistake.

There are already videos of it happening. Again, how is it logical to say that since it didnt happen for the 2 hours a journalist had it that it cannot happen at all? Did any journalist experience a dropped valve in a C6 Z06? Nope, but it definitely was/is a problem. Keep putting your head in the sand. This is happening and it is getting attention everywhere.
The lack of intellectual capability with you is astounding.

I agree. Something needs to be done about the design whether it be in the warnings or safety mechanisms. That being said, I don’t think putting a bungee through the striker is a helpful example because one could easily say it increases the chances of a malfunction. Furthermore, as much as I’d like to take everyone’s account for face value, the one PDR video that shows clear evidence makes it pretty obvious that the frunk was already open. The other video has some hazing or glare on the bottom that makes it useless for analysis.

I have only seen 2 PDR videos of this happening. One shows the frunk was already open and the other has a haze or glare on the bottom that makes it difficult to analyze. It also is a grey car making it more difficult.
Please Jake stop declaring stuff to transport Canada. It will be another reason for them to delay the delivery of my C8 and I don't give a frunk about the front trunk nonsense. Thanks
I would agree that an attachment inward of the latch would be more robust than having the bungee cord going over the weatherstrip. How hard is it to take off the plastic hooks for the netting and mount something more substantial there? I would wonder if they would be strong enough at highway speeds versus the 31 mph here. If I remember from high school physics, the force goes up geometrically with velocity.

I've been reflecting upon all the folks saying things like "it's only dozen," based upon internet-based reports, and the handful of reports to NHTSA. To put this in perspective, there were over 180,000 C7s produced between 2013-19. In my many years in the C7 section, I don't recall seeing more than 500 votes in CF polls of great interest to all owners. That's a .003% response rate of all owners.
There are probably less than 4K C8s on the road at this point, and many of those spend most of their time sitting in garages.
It is easier to vote than it is to post, or report to NHTSA. A dozen or so reports to NHTSA and on the internet only portray the tip of the iceberg.
