Face it, buying a new Corvette (or a new anything) is a stupid financial decision.
When I bought my C7, I got a $3K discount, but have still lost $30K in depreciation.... I knew this going in, and decided I wanted a new car..... was that stupid?
If you are willing to wait, in 2023, you can buy a 2020 C8 for $50K.... "If You Are Willing To Wait".
If you are willing to wait, the HS Homecoming Queen will be divorced, with 2 kinds, and 40 pounds heavier.... "If You Are Willing To Wait".
If you are willing to wait, your $1M Life Insurance Policy will pay off your kid's student loans... "If You Are Willing To Wait."
There's some great advice here. And some juicy remarks and observations.
I think it's wonderful that the C8 is such a big hit. It ensures the bloodline of Corvette going forward. I was more concerned about what if it's a flop. Recently purchasing my 2nd new Corvette in 40 years, a C7, this is great news for the model going forward. The current supply and demand popularity of the C8 is terrific. Everyone wins!
We paid 97K for ours used with 1.5K miles, MSRP was $85K, Z51, FE4, high wing. I wasn't happy about it but my wife really wanted the car now. It comes down to supply and demand and she didn't want to wait until late 2021.
My first Corvette was a 1978. I had ordered a silver anniversary edition and waited months for it. The reason I had to wait for so long was because the Corvette plant was turning out the pace car edition and they where going for as much as 80% above sticker. I finally found a Corvette that the person who had ordered it backed out and I bought that one. After a few years the pace car value drop like a rock and they did not start to recover until just a few years ago. We have also seen this in the C4 ZR1s. But if you have the money and the ego then all power to ya. Sadly I have neither.
I also have a 2020 HTC ordered and I am setting at 3000. It was ordered a MSRP, lucky me.

Reason: Needed to add a little more.
I get they want it now, but it's insane the amount of money they are literally throwing away for it. And if they have that much money to burn then why aren't they buying something like a McLaren? If, on the other hand, they don't have that kind of coin, then I hate to say, but it's borderline idiotic. And that's coming from a car guy with poor priorities! lol
Either way, I wish I realized this lunacy would happen, because I would have got in line to buy a 2020 from the right dealer, and sold it for a profit!
I think a lot of us feel the same way....Actually the strike and the pandemic benefited sellers...For the smart few who invested in the stock market toward the end of March, only had to wait a month or so to dump it and make a huge profit....Those are the people looking to buy these cars now probably...
I noticed that too! So, I put my one month old C8 1LT, Non Z51 on Ebay. Sold it for $82,600 to a dealer two weeks ago.. MSRP was $62,780. Car also had 1175 miles on it. I have since ordered a '21 HTC with FE2.
Looks like Dana Mecum is running your 1LT through his Kissimmee auction next week at no reserve.

See how easy life is?
EXACTLY RIGHT! It always amazes me that folks are SO concerned about how OTHER folks spend their money.
PS. I'll probably get my 2021 HTC sometime around February/March 2021. And if someone walks up to me at a gas station and offers me $20K over MSRP, he just bought himself a car!!!

It's not like it has no ripple effect. It affects the market so that a C8 is currently unobtanium for normal folks like me. All these "gotta have it now, at any cost" buyers are creating this new market where dealers are selling every HOT new vehicle way above MSRP.
It's certainly not just the C8...it was also the Raptor, the GT500, and many other vehicles. It's a new trend and it's frustrating. These are SUPPOSED to be vehicles the average working man can afford, but the spoiled rich folks are ruining that to some extent.

Yep, we are way past the time for Income Equality. A Corvette in every Garage!
Nothing worse than a spoiled Rich Person. They already own all the Ferrari's, Maserati's and Lambos, those greedy Bastards.
My opinion........2020 first mid-engine Corvette = collectable.........
Bob D.
Yea BOB, Just like the Fiero is a collectible LOL!
I been on a wait list since 1/2016, my car arrived on 6/24/20 & was gone on 8/12/20 I always say everyone has a price, I never intended to sell my car, but sometimes you just can’t say no. This will change, they are making more cars every day. The C8 Z06 will be reveled sometime in 2021 as a 22. I am on the wait list for the Z06 since 2/2018. The C8 is a game changer but at the end the day it’s a mass produced sport car that Is not a limited production speciality car.
Their are so many cars that had an emotional frenzy and dropped in values after 6 plus months.
Acura NSX stayed strong
Honda S2000
PT Cruiser
Prowler
GT3RS
Audi R8
C8 Corvette time will tell
458 Ferrari
Merc G Wagon
I can add 100’s of cars to this list

.
Yeah, my dealer I bought it from sent me that notice. I sold it for $180 shy of $20,000 over MSRP, used it for a month and drove it 1177 miles! The dealer who bought it from me had to ship it to Missouri that cost over $1000 and now has to pay to ship it to Florida! He has to pay seller fees to Mecum. How much can this $62,780 MSRP Used 1LT bring at the auction??? How much can this dealer make on this car?

I literally just watched a yellow $75kish MSRP C8 sell for $104k.
Values are ridiculous right now due to demand. Once production and delivery starts up again, they will drop down to realistic values. Until then, there is money to be made if you own a C8 and can wait til the next production run (if you can get an allocation....)
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
