So I’m at the track, VIR, and my engine just blew at the top of the backstretch when I went wot. Does anyone know how to shift the car into neutral without starting the engine?

Looking at the OP post history he uses the car as it was designed (allegedly). But it hasn't been kind to him for it.
I mean... he had all kinds of issues. Electrical. Trans. Now this?
Might be better starting over again.
Feels like his Porsche put the horns on that C8.
Im surprised you don’t have my second grade report card listed.
You know I have had issues, but until now they were minor. Even today after the engine went, people were coming up to me, and I was singing the virtues of the car. It is the best car I’ve ever owned, and I’m a Porsche guy, not a Corvette fan boy. This happens at tracks all too often, with all, makes of cars. It was a surreal experience, and I’m still coming to terms with it, but I wasn’t hurt, and the car will be fixed and life goes on.
Is the car in Park, or still in gear? If not in Park, try pushing the start button for 8 seconds or so without your foot on the brake. That should put the car in "On" position. Then try pushing the N button. But based on the quoted text below, it sounds like that won't work.
The only other way I'm aware of is a special tool ("Park Release Tool") GM sells that fits into the top (or is it the bottom? - I think it's the top) of the transaxle.
Manually Shifting to Neutral
With the ETRS system, the transmission parking pawl cannot be disengaged unless the engine is running. If there is a loss of vehicle battery power, the DT-52388 manual park release tool can be used to shift the transmission to Neutral and move the vehicle. Due to spring pressure, the tool must be applied to the release lever and held in the release position while moving the vehicle. The manual park release is located on the right side of the transmission and can be accessed through the trunk.
Well. Someone was gonna be the first test cade for gm covering track use under warranty.
The OP posts alot of his 718 and his track use. Sucks that someone like him had this happen. Vs the one that will sit in the garage 28 days a month and never brought over 3k rpm.
Good luck OP. Hope it works out in your favor somehow.

well I thought the Porsche was retired, but I’m supposed to go to Watkins Glen next week so I guess just when it thought it was out, they pull it back in.
OP - sorry to hear. Any warnings (engine sound, gauges, lights, etc)?
Good luck with the repair. GM has been pretty decent with warranting for track use; hopefully they'll do so with yours.
a bang and a sickening grinding sound and then no power and zero engine oil alert. I have what looks like a piece of the crankcase. Oil all over the track, all happened in a few seconds,

I had this happen with a C6 Z06 when they were only out for a few months. It was horrible limping off the track.

they'll cover it.
This car is new and hot and they don't want publicity in the negative ESPECIALLY on the track.
I'm sure they'll be anxious to get that engine back to the team so the engineers can tear it down. The instructions will be take it out wrap it crate it we'll pick it up tomorrow.
Assuming it has the Z51 package and over 500 miles, I cannot see why they would question warranty. I hope all goes well and you are back on the road/track again soon.
