Default LT2 Engine Failure

Watching Emilia Hartford’s YouTube channel where her C8 engine was highly modified.

The LT2 engine failed and it was reported that the engine had bent rods caused by the flywheel.

Does anyone have any more details as to what failed and why?

Thanks

I’m pretty sure they intentionally did it for the clicks. I thought they very simply added power without any tuning since no one has unlocked the ecu yet. Pretty sure fire way to make things go kaboom. I could be wrong though. I stopped watching her after it was obvious why she was posting. It started out innocently enough as someone who was a corvette enthusiast but like many of these car youtubers, it’s mainly all hype and expect her to switch to the next car to keep her content fresh and keep her view count up.

You can go watch her videos on it, they explain everything. the TIL is they have a twin turbo kit on it, and were testing some custom tuning via a piggyback device. Just pushed the boost a little far for the stock internals. It's actually a good sign of how much they got out of it before it broke.

But what is the relationship between the flywheel and bent rods?

She is a youtuber financially. Which means that’s her source of income. As such, she will, as many of the others replace the C8 in apx 2-3 months maximum and get something else until her sensationalized big announcement that she is getting a Z06 which she is undoubtedly already on order for. To her credit, she’s the better of the female car youtubers. But she’s not gonna keep anything long - she needs new and constantly upgrading clickbait to keep her subscriber list and view numbers rising. That’s how that game works. I frankly don’t watch youtubers much anymore that are obviously just jumping from car to car because I prefer the guys who are dedicated to this car. It’s frankly much more enjoyable to know they really care about this car! Granted, I’m gonna watch TJ Hunt now because his girl is going through a tough time and he needs the revenue/support (plus he seems like a really nice guy). But most of these guys and gals - it’s just another ride to mod up and move on with.

All this is nice but I am confused. I have built and re-built motors and as memory serves, the flywheel is sort of outside the motor and the rods usually reside inside the motor. Gee, have I missed something?

I agree. That's why I posted to see if there was anymore information.

rods don't bend based on flywheel weight. This LT2 suffered excess cyl pressure and likely some detonation that deformed the rods

It's cool to see someone else blow it up and tear it down. Just glad it's not my money and amazed that that many people are interested.

I enjoyed seeing the LME TT c8 at CaC but they will be smart enough not to hammer the car until it can be tuned.

I hope she sells the c8 cheap!!

She's a decently attractive girl that loves cars. She doesn't even need a C8 to get the views. All she has to do is do what she normally does with her thumbnails and guys will click. She could be smiling next to a honda fit and the video will get 100k views in 8 hours or less.

When she was first starting to break out, it came on my youtube feed so i watched some of her videos. I couldn't do it lol. She doesn't really know much. She's just a ditzy cute girl that likes cars. I guess that's the appeal guys like. But if i wanted to watch eyecandy, it certainly wouldn't be her channel. If i wanted to watch something strictly about cars, it certainly wouldn't be her channel.

And her C8 build is the worst one on youtube lol. The CSP C8 is the best one. The one that belongs to one of the technician/tuner.
