Default paint protection

Researching what would be best for my c8 (delivery hopefully late summer 2021) in regards to protecting paint finish and getting that wet look shine. What are your thoughts on ceramic coating or traditional waxing. I'm not thrilled about protection coating i.e. plastic sheets.

Thanks

A good Paint Protection Film is the best thing you can do to protect from paint chipping.
Waxing is a waste of time now that new tech is out. Ceramics or PPF.
Waxing is an insane amount of work and effort, assuming you do it yourself.

PPF and Ceramic. Mine goes in next week for Xpel Ultimate Plus PPF, Fusion Plus Ceramic Coating (for both the PPF and paint surfaces) and Prime XR Plus window tint.

Best of both worlds. Ppf then ceramic coat then use a synthetic non cut wax on top whenever surface doesn't feel slick.

Why limit yourself?

Too funny dude. Mine is at the shop all this week getting paint correction, full body Xpel Ultimate Plus PPF, Fusion Plus Ceramic 5 year on entire car and off-body application to entire wheels including barrels and brake calipers too and window tint on front and side windows. (UV clear on front obviously). Can’t wait to get it back on Monday!

Oh and I can’t say what’s best to the OP. I think if you want to best protect the original paint, PPF is necessary. If you want the shiniest and cleanest paint and wheels, Ceramic is a must. If you want both you get both. Don’t know much about graphene, but I didn’t like the grey residue coming off after application - seems like its putting particles on the surface. But do your research!

My opinion may not be popular.

I did ceramic and full film protection all the way around on my 2019 ZR1. I will have to look up the product name. Would I do it again? - nope.

I would do the ceramic. The film just doesn't feel right. Also, it can show every imperfection. White car - if the film isn't perfect - gets dirt under the edges. I had one one of the top shops in the whole USA do it. You can't make the film perfect - period.

When my C8 arrives - it is going to get paint correct and ceramic. No plans for any film anywhere.

When it needs paint, I'll paint it or get another car.

Minimum ceramic coating. Waxing is a thing of the past. PPF if you can ($) on typical rock chip areas.

on white. All other colors you have to get right up to the edges to notice it. Went from gray to white and I agree white car ppf? Have panels taken off for edges to be wrapped otherwise looks like **** up close. But the ppf is fantastic in general. Both Xpel and suntek. Suntek is clearer but xpel is tougher.

If you don't mind sharing Zym, what's the approx cost of the PPF and Ceramic Coating? Are you doing the whole car? Thinking of the same thing for my 21, but won't get here until late spring so trying to prep for the extras. Thanks.

I'm not doing PPF on the whole car. Total front end (full front fascia and the carbon flash areas, full hood (frunk), full front fenders, mirrors, lower body sides - $1995. Tint 2 side windows - $169. Ceramic on the entire car is $1495. These prices are before the 10% discount for "Corvette Clubs". PPF is 10 year warranty, tint is lifetime warranty and ceramic coat is 5 year warranty. They are also going to remove my Tracwrap, thoroughly clean everything and do any necessary paint correction. The car (Tracwrap) is covered in bug guts and road trash from the 1500+ mile trip home.

Full car self-healing PPF and a durable hydrophobic coating (Gtechniq EXO) by the best installer in your area. Installer matters more than the product. Don't be the first C8 that your installer does. Let them learn on someone else's ride.

Do not do ceramic on the body paint (especially if the car is black) unless you like water spots. Ceramic+hydrophobic on the wheels is OK. Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax at 1/10 to 1/100th the price outperforms a lot of very fancy coatings.
