Whelp, fellow members, after 8 months, I picked up my Long Beach Red Convertible yesterday.

Backstory, I’ve been a member since 2001, was active on the C3 and C6 forums, in the past. I was one of the first members to install a Borg Warner T56 transmission behind a BBC in my C3 and put it in the Tech section years ago, but it’s probably no longer listed.

I purchased a C6 Convertible in 2007, supercharged it, headers, methanol injection. Had a mild tune of 525 rwhp. It was fun.

After retiring in 2016 and selling the C6, (my last Corvette, I told my wife) in 2017, I purchased a 1973 MGB with a tired Buick V6 in it. This was supposed to be my retirement project and take me several years to complete. I completed it in 2018 and started wondering what I was going to do next, then rumors of a rear engine Corvette started. I said uh-oh. (To myself)

When we saw the unveiling last year, we had to get one, so here I am, back after years of absence. We love the car, purposely bought a non-Z51, as I’m done with hot rodding, not a fan of the rear spoilers and want to just cruise the US, which we plan to do. Also, the aftermarket industry will provide me with a small, rear lip spoiler, eventually, that will complement the car nicely.

You gotta get one of these new ones. Thank you Chevrolet. And I thought the only rear engine Chevy I would ever own was the 1962 Corvair.

Congratulations! Nice vette, I hope you enjoy it for many years to come. I am also watching for an aftermarket lip spoiler to hit market soon. The only one I've seen is $1395 and is carbon fiber. Hopefully a less expensive non CF option hits market soon.

Long Beach Red is the color I most want to see in person out in the sun, I think it's just so classy. It and Zues Bronze are the only two I've not ran into.

Happy retirement! What are you going to do for project? You may be too busy cruising around and washing your new car. Beautiful color, but only when it's clean. Technically, you still only had one rear engine Chevy.

Whew, not a fan of that one, still too big and costly. I contacted Corvettemods.com as they make small lipped spoilers for C5,6,7 and they indicated they plan to have one before the end of the year. Probably around $400.

My other mods will be window tint (thinking 3M Crystalline), front and side paint protection vinyl, splash guards (I forgot to order on the car) and front radiator protector screen.

i found the matching, honeycomb style screen Chevy used on the top and rear engine vents. It comes from Custom Cargrills and I got a 16”x48” black powder coated piece on Amazon.

Whelp, I feel bad for the MG, as it’s really a fun car to drive. I had the 231ci Buick V6 rebuilt with higher compression and a larger cam, so it’s putting out about 250hp. In a 2000 lb car, it scoots. So, I’ll tinker with it a little longer, I guess. It’s got a darn good sound system in it now, yep, I have installed sound systems or components in my other Vettes and vehicles for over 50 years.

Because I love good sound systems for cruising, I really wanted someone to review the one in the C8, but I guess younger owners of the C8 love the engine/exhaust sound, more than the entertainment sound. I can honestly say this Bose is their best yet, certainly loud enough and has very decent quality sound, in case any others on here wonder. My wife and I need good sounds to cruise in a car, so it is important to know.

We had planned to “See the USA in our Chevrolet” this past summer, but obviously, both the car delay and plague, altered those plans. We were also going to head west, back to NAPA/Sonoma, but now, I think we’ll head east, when the weather allows this coming spring. This will be the first Vette we actually plan to drive a bunch.

Now, I have to say, I loved that Corvair. I put in a decent (for the time) sound system, with a 15” woofer from a juke box, 8 track player and drove it 30 miles each way to college, in 1971. Truly a good little car. Ralph Nader and politics killed it.

Well, you made me look! No, it’s the standard ride height, being a non-Z51, there is no front splitter on the bottom, so looks higher, I guess. On the front, side, bottom, there is a small black skid pad that rests about 4” from the ground.

Yeah, the Corvair, what memories. Every once in a while I see a restored Corvair on BAT....I'm tempted sometimes.
