Has anyone came up with an innovative way to stop water from running into the engine bay when washing the car other than taping them closed? I would have thought some parts dealer would have came up with something by now.
Lay one or two bath towels over the engine area under the cover and wash away. Then use the damp towels to wipe off windows and non paint areas. Works great.
I ceramic coated the engine compartment (surround, metal bracing, rear window, etc.) After washing I just raise the rear hood and blow the entire area out with the leaf blower that I use for drying. There's no water spots at all, dry as can be.

Yup!
That's what my buddy does with his TURO C8. I told him next time he washes, invite me so i can help lol. Always fun to wash an amazing car!
I have found that this works very well to keep water form running into the engine compartment while washing the car..You keep them damp and you can press them into the vents. They worked great for me.
A little off topic, but after we wash the C8, we drive the car about 5 miles at 60 mph. It drys itself except for the engine compartment and the vertical surfaces of the rear end. It’s really spot free.

Lay large towels over cool engine and now the towels will absorb the water that was going onto the engine compartment or buy a convertible

Use something like Adams Detail Spray and microfiber towels to clean the car vs washing unless it is really dirty. This works great for me, no need to do any drying etc. It leaves a nice gloss and is ready to wax if you so desire at that point.
I never wash my Corvettes with water, I use Adams waterless wash and detail spray. Water is not necessary and you will not scratch the finish if you do the process correctly. My Corvettes have won numerous car shows, Best of Show, Best of Class, etc. and my '04 'vert has won NCCC concours events. No need to use any water on you car or your engine for that matter.

I second this !!!! I bought 3 of the 27" X 17" size to use. One down each side, and one stuffed under the glass opening on the bottom. Works very well. I dampen them, wring them out and fold them into a 27" X about 4" strip and place them over the vents. Keeps out about 99 % of the water.
I just wipe any water that ends up on the engine area with a towel. Takes about 1 minute. Not an issue. Laying a towel over the engine is also a good procedure.
