I was looking inside of C8 today..looks like there are buttons for the shifter..also what is that know for?
I currently have a C6 manual, but I am considering ordering a C8.
^^^
Not sure what your question is but there are three buttons, Manual, Neutral and Park but the Drive/Reverse is actually more like a momentary toggle switch! Just looks fancy!
Like anything else, easy to get used to.
The one thing I thought was funny, was that cantilevered cover over the Drive Mode ****. It's actually great! Also it doesn't operate like the C7, which IMO was more like playing Russian Roulette! Easy and sure to go from one Drive Mode to another. Don't need to switch to Track as I have Z Mode set with most attributes at Track.
I really like that My Mode is there when I start since that where it was when I shut it off. That is what I use and seldom change. I will when it gets below ~50 F and when it rains. Then I use Weather.
thanks..also does paddle shifters turn with steering wheel or do they stay the same
Yep as stated it turns with the wheel. Causes an issue when driving in Manual Mode. If you are the first car stopped at Red light and making a right turn, the upshift paddle is not in position to shift out of first. Sounds like not a big deal BUT it is because of the dif ratio (with fixed intermediate gear) is 5.71:1. Combined with 1st gear that's 14:1 torque multiplication. For a comparison my 2017 Grans Sport had a combined gear ratio in 1st of 10:1. If you don't shift out of first with even moderate throttle you're at 5000+ rpm at the blind of an eye!
In my case I have a spot I use everyday with even more of an issue. I have a 4 lane highway in front of the street I live on. Especially this time of year have lots of traffic traveling to and from Myrtle Beach connecting to I 95. The speed limit is 60 mph so traffic can be heavy traveling 65+ mph. When returning home, I often cross two lanes of traffic when there is a gap. I stop in the highway divider and wait for a gap in traffic to merge. With the speeds they are traveling I accelerate rapidly to merge and get to the right lane. Unlike the pic below, visibility with the C8 is poor when stopped at an angle so I pull straight across. I have to make a sharp left turn and accelerate when there is a gap (the C8 ~3 second 0 to 60 is a big help -and fun!) Especially when using a lot of throttle you can't wait for the upshift paddle to get in a position to grab 2nd!
I use a simple easy workaround in those cases - I put the car in Drive. It shifts automatically. Easy to get to 60+ mph and in the case where I'm near my street. Then pull the downshift paddles rapidly while applying the brakes aggressively to enter our 25 mph speed limit single lane road around a large fountain! Also fun! I live 2 miles down that twisty road.
In my 911 if I have to quick shift first to second while turning I just use the shift lever which has a +/- when you’re in manual mode. Can’t do that in the C8.
Further to the McLaren and Ferrari comment above: Paddles on my 570 toggle -- that is, pull right for upshift; push right for downshift; pull left for downshift; push left for upshift. No neutral by pulling both paddles. Great for one handed driving. On my 488, the paddles are very long, so they're almost never out of reach. Looking forward to getting my C8 -- spring/early summer. Red mist with black/red stitch sueded.
